The Alternative Board (TAB)

T

AB is a well-established brand with roots in the US since 1990 and a presence in the UK since 2009. The

founder of TAB had benefi ted from a board of directors, but realised that many SME business owners didn’t have that luxury of a sounding board. TAB fi lls that gap and gives business owners a ‘TAB Board’ where they can share issues and opportunities they are experiencing so that they can make better and quicker decisions. Simply put, a TAB franchisee will:  Facilitate monthly Board Meetings of six to eight SME business owners (‘members’)

 Conduct 1:1 coaching sessions with each  Work with members to use TAB’s bespoke online strategic business planning process

TAB franchisee journey Paul Winterbottom started his TAB business in Manchester in 2014 and currently runs three TAB Boards. “My month is varied,” says Paul. “When I fi rst started a lot of my time was spent on marketing and lead generation to recruit my fi rst members. I simply worked hard and followed TAB’s excellent training and robust lead-generation process. I had lots of meetings with business owners, which were fascinating – I loved hearing about them and their businesses; some were right for TAB, others weren’t, however some have now been members for over fi ve years! As soon as I’d established my three current boards with 18 members, I began to spend my time differently. As well as the four-

hour monthly TAB board meetings, I have one- to-one coaching sessions with my members every month and work with them on developing and implementing their strategy, including using our range of online business tools. This combination moves their business in the right direction, helping them to achieve their goals.”
