loft storage solutions in an easy and affordable way. The business was founded in 2005 after Tim and Lindsay Brown identified a gap in the market for this type of service. Demand proved constant, even during the recession, as many people couldn’t afford to move to a larger home, choosing instead to create space within their existing homes. They quickly established that to deliver the same service with quality products, offer value for money and continue their company philosophy of never letting a customer down, they needed to operate in a more localised way to accommodate the demand. Packaging up their systems into a handy ‘business in a box’ meant that franchisees would be benefiting from the tried-and-tested sales, admin and finance IT systems; it became obvious that they could package this system and give the opportunity to others. operation was launched by Tim’s friend, Graham Ormesher. He set up the business in Preston, Lancashire, in 2013. The success of the pilot franchise led to the business growing quickly, and by 2016 had achieved annual turnover of £288,000, along with a conversion rate of 85 per cent. Graham says: “It was a complete change of direction, but I love it! The franchise model worked really well for me. It wasn’t a cold start – I got all the support I needed.” Further franchisee territories were established in Blackburn and Blackpool, and these businesses, in addition to Plymouth and Preston, continue to operate profitably. In 2017, Graham was invited to join the


board of Access4Lofts to share his skills and to help prepare for the franchise’s national launch in 2018. The franchise model has some significant


improvements, including a fully integrated, bespoke quoting, marketing and admin system, leaving franchisees free to concentrate on the hands-on work.


About the storage sector Almost every home in the UK has a reason for loft access and enhanced storage space. There are 25 million houses in the UK, with an average of 200,000 new homes being built each year. It’s estimated that less than 10 per cent have already adapted their loft space for storage, thereby giving a potential market of approximately 23 million homes.
