Day in the life Beautiful day
Valerie Craven-Grace’s Celbridge franchise was the fi rst for Guinot in Ireland and opened in December 2016. Here, she describes her daily work routine
8.00am
I start every day with a good breakfast and sort out the salon’s laundry for the day before heading over there – which luckily is only a fi ve-minute drive away from my home.
9.30am The fi rst thing I do when I arrive at the salon is respond to any emails received overnight. I will also login to Facebook and reply to messages, comments or reviews and schedule the day’s posts. Every morning I check that my therapists have prepared the treatment rooms as they are shown in the Guinot operations manual. The salon must be fully stocked at all times so I check stock levels on a daily basis and place an order should we need it.
I conduct weekly and monthly meetings with my team to communicate, inform and update them on promotions, treatment and product launches and targets. I use these meetings to continue to motivate, coach and develop my team of therapists to ensure we are providing the best services possible.
10.00am
Although the running of the business is my main priority, I still make sure I have time to take care of my clients, some of whom have been coming to me for their skincare needs for over 20 years. One of my favourite things about my business is seeing my clients happy and knowing that my team and I helped create that!
2.00pm Time for lunch and to give myself an hour to relax and get some fresh air. In this time I also take the opportunity to establish relationships with local businesses by popping into the nearby shops with price lists, local business discount cards and fi rst-time discount cards to give to their clients.
3.00pm
After a brisk walk, I am straight back to work. I have a weekly phone call with the franchise development manager, Ellie Tidy, to discuss how we are getting on

with the marketing and promotional activity and if there are any issues I need support on. Ellie also visits every quarter for a salon healthcheck where we will compare performance fi gures against those set out in my original business plan and alongside others in the franchise network. From there we can then work out what we need to focus on and how. Every six weeks I have an appointment with our local business development manager, Fiona Kennedy, who will run through the next cycle of promotions with us, as well as introduce us to any new treatments or products.
Before leaving the salon I will cash up and send the day’s reports to head offi ce. I use these to review and set targets based on my original business plan.
6.15pm
By 6.15pm I am home. I will eat dinner, relax and spend some time with my husband and two sons.
