Complete Entertainment eXchange (CeX) takes the buy-and-sell


concept and updates it by trading mobile phones, games, electronics, computers, movies and TV shows directly with the public

What challenges have you faced? The fi rst six months were a challenge, as opening your own franchise can come with a steep learning curve. We also had a large fl ood, which set us back considerably, but with the support we’ve had from the franchisor, we are now fi ghting fi t!


Has becoming a franchisee changed your life? If so, how? Yes! I really enjoy being my own boss and my staff are fantastic. I enjoy having fl exibility with my hours, the products that we buy and sell are great, and the company is helpful and understanding.

Tell us about yourself and what you were doing prior to investing in a franchise business... I was in regional sales for many years and was made redundant twice. This led me to reconsider what career path I wanted and in what industry.


Why did you go down the franchise route, and what drew you towards a CeX franchise? Tech is an industry I love, so it was an easy choice for me. A CeX franchise was recommended when I visited the CeX Cheltenham store and the rest is history.

What support did you receive, both initially and ongoing?


My training started in the CeX Gloucester store in the middle of 2014 and continued through to January 2015, with my store opening shortly after. After opening, franchisees can request support from their operations and franchise managers and the diff erent CeX departments, such as marketing and IT support.


What is a typical day for you as a franchisee?


I either work in, or visit, the store every day. This isn’t a requirement but a personal


What is the most invaluable piece of advice you could give someone looking to invest in their fi rst franchise? Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, as they will happen! The fi rst 12 months can be tough but it will get better if you use the support network provided and speak to your operations and franchise managers, and CeX support departments.


What are your plans for the future? My second store will be open next year and a third store isn’t off the cards.


Would you do it again? Yes!
