ore and more people are looking to exit the rat race and take control of their destiny via business ownership.

More businesses are looking at growth strategies that present a lower financial risk, and more entrepreneurs are recognising the benefit of setting up management frameworks that can operate a number of business models. At the heart of this trend is franchising, enabling a broad range of people to achieve the lifestyles and investment returns they are looking for. As with any spike in popularity

there comes the need to emphasise the importance of education, to both assist new entrants to the space and protect the industry, its quality and reputation. This is why the bfa’s Franchise Training Academy and the support it offers is critical for the franchising industry, along with any people and brands operating within it. As the ethical voice and the self-

regulating body of the franchise industry, the bfa is ideally placed to educate you about the opportunities, risks and rewards of franchising so that you can make informed choices. There are a range of bfa courses with a variety of subjects and durations, from introductory day seminars through to the structured and ‘gold standard’ course, leading to a formal and personal accreditation, the qualified franchise professional (QFP).

Full-day, cost-effective courses for prospective franchisees and franchisors are run regularly throughout the UK

The aim of these courses is to help arm those interested in joining the industry with foundation information and top tips on what to watch out for when taking the leap. For anyone interested in investing in a franchise, prospective franchisee seminars are designed and run by the bfa. Franchise industry experts explain the opportunities available and how to

assess yourself, the franchisor and the marketplace. The aim of the seminar is to give you the key steps you need to consider so you can decide if franchising is right for you. If you already have a business and are considering using the franchising model to expand and grow, the prospective franchisor seminars are ideal for you. These seminars are designed to help you decide if franchising is the right next move for your brand and to understand the key considerations in developing a successful franchise operation. Franchise industry experts explain the key steps you must consider, together with the advantages and disadvantages of franchising your business.

Free module-based training for prospective franchisees and franchisors to complete online The bfa’s prospect franchisee certificate (PFC), in association with Lloyds Bank, was launched in 2016 to help those considering investing in a franchise to make an informed decision on whether franchising is right for them and how to find the right brand to invest in. Working with expert professional advisers from the industry, the bfa covers the responsibilities of a franchisee, the finances of a franchise

and why you should get your franchise agreement checked before you sign. Pip Wilkins, CEO of the bfa, says: “Every good franchisor is extremely selective about franchisee recruitment. The PFC supports people in this area, helping them understand what the franchisor is looking for and developing their knowledge of ethical franchising.” The bfa team are currently developing

the prospect franchisor certificate, in association with Lloyds Bank, to provide the same quality training to business owners who are considering taking the leap into franchising. The bfa’s Franchise Training Academy and the support it offers is critical for the franchising industry.

Specialist franchise training for professionals within the industry The QFP programme has been specifically developed for people working within the franchising industry who want to demonstrate their experience, understanding and ethical approach to franchising. Established in 2011, the QFP is the

bfa’s formal recognition of professional knowledge and experience. Attaining it demonstrates a deep understanding of the complexities and best practice in franchising, and the time invested by an individual to continuously develop their skills and know-how. With around 140 bfa-trained QFP

professionals within the industry and a similar number currently going through the process, the accreditation is well established as the foremost qualification available to an individual in franchising. Recently, the bfa decided to bring

the core training modules in-house. This enables the bfa to further ensure the consistency of the training and materials in order to grow the reputation of the qualification within the wider business community.
