for display but are a showcase of Eugenie’s original works. This extended into spending time as an artist in residence at the Dutch Textile Museum, where she developed a series of knitted pieces.
In terms of teaching, Eugenie encourages her students to look for their own pattern, to find their own way to do things, and to explore how to construct something with the technique. “One of the most beautiful things I saw is work from my Australian student R. R. Pascoe; she did the pleating workshop and now she uses it to make clothes. I was very happy that she was in my class and took the technique home and did something completely different with it.”

Tingting Zhang graduated with an MA in Millinery from the Royal College of Art, and a BA in Fabric Design (Textile) from Central Saint Martins in London, and formed Cloud of Hats with business partners Maxxie Wang and Hua Wang. The team have a clear idea of their focus: they explore new technology and do deep research of materials. Based on this, they create art, experience space, and try to broaden the borders of the manufacturing, the usage and the meaning of a hat.
With a focus on textile innovation, the designs incorporate different construction techniques, including the use of zero-waste patterns in the form of squares and laser cutting. Within the new collection of daywear, the tag featured in the pieces changes colour under the sun. From a development aspect, they aim to put many elements in the hats. The fabrication and construction possibilities influence the design. Cloud of Hats mix the elements of the shoes with their own design and put the worker’s name inside of the hats. They want to create the question through their design of pushing people to think: if you treat it as real or if you treat it as fake.
