EVENT LHW At the Supplier Fair

by Elly Stemerdink

On Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 April thirteen stand holders presented their hat making materials at the London Hat Week Supplier Fair in the atriums of Guy’s Hospital. There was a lot of interest for the event and it looked like no visitor went home empty-handed.

Rachel Eddison from Gloucestershire in the UK (www.hatsolutely.com) did some pre- shopping with her sister at Baxter Hart &

Abraham in Luton the day before the Supplier Fair started. She nonetheless managed to

collect a substantial amount of new materials at the fair for her stock at home. Her husband was kind enough to join her on her shopping trip – guarding all the bags and helping her bring everything home safely.

Corina of DeCorina Hats from Romania (www.decorinahats. com) carried several bags and a suitcase with her at the Supplier Fair. “I bought a lot of new materials, but I also have a few creations that I made and materials that I bought during the classes in my suitcase. I’m going home loaded. Usually I buy my materials online as there aren’t a lot of suppliers in Romania. Most of the suppliers here I already knew. What’s nice is that I now have the opportunity to see and touch everything before I buy it. I also like that I can talk with the suppliers and hear where their materials are produced and under what conditions. Yesterday, I went to Jane Taylor’s turban workshop, where I worked for the first time with buntal. It’s a nice material for turbans so I was pleased to see that a few suppliers here have it on sale.”
