and undertake a course in creative writing while continuing her freelance millinery work. Reflecting upon some of the highlights of her career so far, Rose mentions her time spent as President of the Millinery Association of Australia. Despite being part of the steering committee that originally formed the Association Rose became involved again when colleague Phillip Rhodes was President in 2014 after being invited as a guest speaker by Louise Macdonald, who was the Education Officer at the time. Rose took on the role of President herself in 2016 through to 2018. In that time the committee hosted the Hats Off to Adelaide Convention, introduced tiered membership, hosted design awards and continued to grow the national approach. One of the achievements of which she is most proud was hosting an event with guest of honour Stephen Jones, which was exclusively for members of the Association. “There were so many achievements in that time. But I was so lucky to have such a fantastic team on the committee to work with me.”

Her passion and experience shine through when you speak with Rose about her achievements in the millinery industry so far. “Millinery still sparks joy. My idea of fun is hand sewing something perfectly.” Rose currently works from her studio in Highett as a freelance theatrical milliner, is co-owner of Hat Blockers with milliner Enza Geddes and teaches millinery at Melbourne Polytechnic.
