If necessary iron the cone again to get rid of any bumps or creases, but without pressing the stitched seam...

10

...as the seam should remain a soft fold. Fold in the seam at the opening (about 2,5 cm) and insert a long pin.

11

Sew a few stitches to hold the tuck you have just made. Use a double thread for the sewing.

12

Very gently, fold in the cut edge (4 to 6 cm), so that you get a soft fold. Don’t make a sharp crease.

13

Place the shape on the mannequin, with the tuck over the right eye. Secure the front with a long pin.

14

Decide how high you want the hat to sit at the back of the crown and secure it with a long pin to the head. I use pins with a stem of about 6 cm to avoid flattening the soft folds.

15

For this design, I like the bottom of the hat shape to undulate from the front right frontal lobe to the back left side.

16

Insert a pin or two to encourage that shape. Now you can go off in any direction you want.

17

Create a couple of drapes in the front. To do this, knead the straw forward to get the fold you want.
