WORKROOM TECHNIQUE

01

Using the Teflon iron shield, press the cone to remove any creases. You want it to be as smooth as possible.

02

Don’t iron over the sides, as you don’t want to have any creases.

03

Cut the cone upwards from the bottom (selvage), to one centimeter from the square at the top of the cone.

What do you need

One parasisal cone Petersham ribbon Millinery wire gauge 22 Sewing thread Stiffener Mannequin head Sewing machine Large scissors Small scissors Sewing pins Extra long pins Measuring tape Thimble Wax for your thread Iron with iron shield

04

The cut is going to be concealed in the headfitting of the hat, so make your cut on the least appealing side of the cone.

05

Turn the cone inside out, so that the right side is on the inside.

06

Pin along what was originally the bottom of the cone (the selvage). The cut is on the side of the cone.

07

Sew the seam with a straight stitch on the sewing machine (length 3) following the weave of the parasisal.

08

Turn the cone back through the cut hole so that the right side is facing out. Tip: first push in at the tip and then pull through.
