LOOKING GOOD WITH ANY CAPSULE Sound Devices BY KEVIN EMMOTT

Designed for use across a range of broadcast and entertainment production environments, Sound Devices is presenting its entire Astral Wireless range, including the show debut of the A20-HH handheld mic. Launched this year, the A20-HH is the third transmitter in the company’s wireless family of products and not only retains

the same features as the rest of the range but also boasts the ability to natively use other manufacturers’ mic capsules. The A20-HH mic can be used with Sound Devices’ own CD-1 capsule for smooth vocal capture, and it can be changed to natively accommodate mic capsules that conform to Shure- or Sennheiser-style threads, all with no adapter. Also on show, Sound Devices’ patent-pending wideband RocketAntenna enables the mic

to transmit at the same level with no dropouts, irrespective of where the mic is held. Capable of tuning to a worldwide tuning range of 470MHz-1525MHz, the company claims it has the longest range RF transmission on the market. The mic also has a quick-change body shell, control ring and capsule collar that enables users to easily change its visual aesthetics to match any setting. 8.C42

BEAUTY SHOTS ON THE GO Grass Valley BY KEVIN EMMOTT

Following the debut of its LDX 180 camera earlier this year, Grass Valley is doubling down at IBC with the brand-new LDX C180. This is a compact version of the LDX 180 that mounts on Steadicams, gimbals and remote heads to add intimate roaming shots on stage or pitch. Both cameras share Grass Valley’s Super 35 Xenios global-shutter imager, delivering sports, concerts and live events in UHD/HDR while slotting

consists of a mix of Lawo Home Apps with assorted confi guration settings, highlighting both Lawo’s VSM workfl ow control system and the Home Apps universe. At the heart of Lawo’s presentation is Home 4.0, the latest evolution of its IP-native management platform, which introduces architectural refi nements and a simplifi ed licencing model. The Home platform is now free of charge; with the introduction of Home Passes – lightweight licences for each actively managed device or app – broadcasters gain precise control over infrastructure costs. Home Passes are available

as permanent licences or through Lawo’s Flex subscription credit model, and all newly purchased Home-native devices and software products include the required Home Passes. Also on show, Lawo Workspaces bring intuitive HTML5-native user interfaces to Home Apps, allowing operators access to broadcast- grade tools from any device with a modern web browser. Entirely platform-agnostic, Lawo says the interfaces are ideal for distributed production teams, control room staff and remote operators. 8.B90

The LDX 100 Series camera platform features a Grass Valley- developed imager and Creative Grading, while the LDX C180 also integrates with existing LDX Series cameras such as the LDX 135, LDX 150 and LDX 180 to ensure consistent colourimetry, shared transmission and a unifi ed visual language within a single production.

a unifi ed pipeline. Crucially it means no licence fl ips and no format compromises: operators simply choose the right body, whether that is “a 2/3in

workhorse for baseline coverage or a super 35 heroes for cinematic detail”, and shade them all as one cohesive fl eet. 9.A01
