#IBC2025 VX MARKS THE SPOT

POWERFUL GUARDIAN OFFERS SEMI-SOLID PROTECTION

IDX Technology BY DAVID FOX

IDX has launched its fi rst portable power station, the Guardian, which it claims is a “safe and reliable protector and provider of power wherever it is required”.

Rayner: ‘VX enables operators to move pristine, low-latency media securely over any network’

Making its European debut at IBC2025 is the VX Media Gateway, the fi rst component of the VX software stack. Designed to run on-prem or in the cloud, it safeguards ground-to-cloud feeds with advanced stream protection, failover and Appear’s accelerated SRT implementation, while supporting standards such as ST 2022 and RTP/UDP. Andy Rayner, CTO, Appear, said: “VX enables operators to move pristine, low-latency media securely over any network and exchange it seamlessly between hardware and software services.” Also new at IBC is the compact X5, which joins the X Platform line-up with ultra-low latency compression and IP transport for smaller or pop-up productions.

Appear is demonstrating how the X5’s cost-effectiveness enables sports to take production in-house, gaining control of their output without compromising quality.

For bandwidth-hungry workfl ows, a new 100Gbps I/O card quadruples chassis throughput, carrying everything from lightly compressed to fully uncompressed UHD while preserving power and footprint budgets.

Appear is also championing the emerging Media eXchange Layer (MXL) protocols, with VX architected from the design stage for MXL, to deliver vendor- agnostic micro-services that interconnect naturally and with ultra-low latency.

Rayner calls MXL the “next logical step for live production”, saying it enables “best-of-breed workfl ows without compromise”. 1.C61

super-black surface that minimises refl ection.

BY KIRSTY HAZLEWOOD

“Fusing precision engineering with versatility”, Pixreal is making its debut at IBC2025 with its Hiro series and versatile LED solutions, supporting effi cient cinematic workfl ows. Hiro boasts a 1/8 scan ratio, 7680Hz refresh rate and a

The display is claimed to deliver “impeccable colour depth and grayscale precision” for fi lm- industry LED walls and is powered by advanced driver ICs and wide-colour gamut LEDs for full HDR adaptivity.

Joining the lineup, the Enzo3.9 features fl exible hanging, stacking and ceiling confi gurations, while its

It has a total capacity of 2008Wh, a nominal power output of 2000W and can be charged to 100% in just two hours. It weighs less than 17kg thanks to the combination of semi-solid lithium-ion cells and GaN semiconductors. The semi-solid cells allow faster charging and higher output due to lower impedance compared to traditional Li-Ion, and the semiconductors are more effi cient and faster,

creating a smaller, lighter product.

This also makes the unit safer and more reliable. The electrolyte liquid in the cells is non-fl ammable and fl ame retardant, so even if an external shock, overcharge or internal short circuit happens, it doesn’t burn or generate heat. The semiconductors experience slower cell degradation for a longer life. The Guardian’s output connectors include three 240V 50/60Hz AC outputs, two USB-C PD, four USB-A, two DC5521 and a 12V socket that can be converted into a 4-pin XLR using a conversion cable. It can be charged via solar panel, up to 1000W, without the need for a controller or inverter. 12.F32

On guard: IDX’s 2008Wh Guardian portable power station

The Hiro series offers HDR adaptivity for LED walls

1000x1000mm cabinets offer new options in the rental sector. The Spark series, a linear LED element with customisable lengths and interchangeable covers, allows creative teams to transform set designs and architectural spaces. Leo Wu, Founder, Pixreal, said:

“Hiro embodies our commitment to merging technical innovation with artistic vision.” 3.A63
