Innovative Management of Periodontal and Implant Conditions with Er,Cr:YSGG Laser Technology

Preety Desai, DDS, MSC Samuel B. Low, DDS, MS, MED

Today’s periodontist requires technology to enhance procedural results in a variety of both hard and soft tissue environments. The YSGG “all tissue” laser is uniquely able to remove < 5 cell layers at a time while its penetration allows concurrent bleeding control and microbial decontamination in a surgical environment. As such the superior role that YSGG has in being truly “minimally invasive” in its ablation of hard and soft tissues can benefit your clinical practice. Laser enhanced techniques include periosteal tunneling for muco gingival procedures, osseous preservation extractions, alveolar socket debridement, esthetic crown lengthening and smear layer/biofilm removal in a variety of therapies. The global expansion of procedures from managing both moderate to severe periodontitis to periimplantitis will be presented in a series of case reports with scientific justification demonstrating accelerated wound healing. Pearls will be provided to market the “techno” niche practice in today’s competitive environment.
