Effective Decontamination of Implant Surfaces Edward P. Allen, DDS, PhD
Peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis following successful osseointegration of functionally loaded implants have become recognized as significant problems in implant dentistry. Both are progressive infective processes that cause patient discomfort and can lead to implant failure. Prevention and treatment of these maladies require reduction of the microbial burden by effective decontamination of the abutment and implant surfaces. This presentation will describe both non-surgical and minimally invasive surgical treatment methods for problems at implant sites.

2:05 – 2:45 p.m. | Choosing Patient Specific Treatment Options from Guided to Navigated Surgery – My Decision Tree in Daily Routine
Edmond Bedrossian, DDS, FACD, FACOMS, FAO
New innovations in guided and navigated surgery provide more options for the treatment of the edentulous or terminal dentate patient. Understanding considerations together with surgical factors are critical.
This presentation will display the clinical decision making in opting for guided versus navigated implant surgery. Based on the clinical situation, as well as patient requirements, an array of highly reliable treatment options will be discussed. This presentation will also look at a new innovative system called Trefoil™ which provides a premium alternative to treat an entirely new patient population.
2:45 – 3:15 p.m. | Evidence Based Innovation - The Link between Science and Therapy
Jill Helms, DDS, PhD
Above all else, implant specialists focus on improving quality of life for their patients. This focus requires a deep understanding of the biology and mechanics of implant osseointegration, and that is the goal of implant scientists: to provide the science basis for clinical innovation.
