CAPE TOWN DROUGHT ABATES The end of Cape Town’s lengthy drought may be in sight now that dams are at their highest levels
since 2016, following significant winter rainfall. According to officials, dam levels in October show they’re more than 70% full. The improving situation means that Day Zero – the projected date when Cape Town would further reduce the supply of water to its citizens – will not take place in 2018 or 2019. Restrictions on water usage remain, however, to ensure supplies are conserved and managed effectively, and to allow dam levels to continue to rise. (AF500)
