Before you actually lower the anchor overboard, prepare the boat and the crew. Bring the anchor up on deck and make sure the connections between the anchor and rode are secure. Make sure the bitter end of the anchor rode is attached to a se- cure point on the boat. Prepare the line so it will run freely. Lead the anchor under the bow pulpit so the anchor line will feed out from the bow through the chock, or prepare to lower from the bow roller. Consult your chart of the area to find the best spot to anchor.
