PAID CONTENT FOR SORRISNIVA
King crabs were first found in Norway in
1977 and fishing for them has become one of the most exclusive experiences offered in the Arctic Circle. Originally native to the Northern Pacific Ocean, the king crab was introduced by the Soviet Union in the 1960s to the Murmansk ford. From here it spread rapidly along the Norwegian coast and even reached Svalbard. It’s believed that the king crab came to Alta Fjord around the year 2012. Sorrisniva’s king crab fishing experience
enables guests to fish for this delicacy before making their way back to the hotel for a world- class lunch. The king crab is prized for its sweetness and meatiness, unlike any other crab meat in the world. The romanticism of working hard to harvest the wild crab in combination with a renowned culinary experience makes this a day not to be missed. The Wisløff family has lived along the banks
of the Alta River since 1885, originally working in farming and salmon fishing. Over the years the destination has steadily grown to become the
leading premium arctic wilderness destination, offering high-end accommodation in the newly opened Arctic Wilderness Lodge alongside once-in-a-lifetime and unique experiences in the world’s northernmost igloo hotel. The third generation brothers of Hans Ulrik
and Tor Kjetil have progressively developed their tourism offering, starting with riverboat safaris through the spectacular Alta river canyon in 1970. Sorrisniva offered the first Norwegian snowmobile safaris in 1989. Snowmobiling over the Finnmark plateau is still one of the most sought-after arctic experiences in northern Norway, with adventures across frozen lakes, to mountain lodges in the middle of nowhere, and even two-day expeditions to the Sami village of Karasjok. Sorrisniva is the gateway to premium and
authentic arctic experiences offering unique accommodation, world-renowned cuisine, fine-dining experiences and a wide range of adventures through the dramatically different Arctic seasons.
