PAID CONTENT FOR KVARNER

Kvarner CROATIA

Kvarner is renowned for its picturesque coastal locations with fantastic beaches, many of which are ranked among the best in the world, and its ‘open-air aromatherapy’, the result of a combination of wind, sea, Mediterranean herbs and mild climate. It’s a region with excellent cuisine and quality wines, and is ideal for outdoor activity holidays. It has more than 30 protected areas and is home to dolphins, vultures, bears, wolves and lynxes. Kvarner is one of the top three tourist regions

in Croatia, with a unique combination of coast, islands and mountains. The coast consists of the Opatija Riviera, Rijeka and its surroundings, and the Crikvenica-Vinodol Riviera. There are four large islands (Krk, Cres, Losinj and Rab) surrounded by numerous smaller ones. Gorski Kotar, a mountainous area on the

border of two large mountain ranges — where the Alps end and the Dinarides begin — is the link between continental and Mediterranean Croatia. The Kvarner region has a lot to offer in a relatively small area: it has always been

a region of first-class gastronomy and excellent wines. Visitors will find restaurants with Michelin stars, Gault & Millau toques, Falstaff and other recommendations, as well as the regional Kvarner Gourmet and Kvarner Food quality labels. Kvarner is a brilliant place to visit for outdoor

lovers. It offers walking, hiking, themed and educational trails, and has more than 1,865 miles of bike trails. In Kvarner, you can also enjoy diving, wakeboarding, parachuting or hang-gliding, zip-lining, free climbing, surfing, fishing, observing dolphins and vultures, rafting, canoeing and kayaking. The region of Kvarner has over 30 protected

areas in a relatively small area. It’s great for animal lovers because it’s the only place you can observe the two endangered species for which Kvarner is one of the last refuges: the griffon vulture and bottlenose dolphin. Thanks to the preservation and protection of its environment, Kvarner is also home to the three large European carnivores: bear, wolf and lynx.

Don’t miss The chance to observe nature — including bottlenose dolphins and griffon vultures — in one of Kvarner’s 30 protected areas
