PAID CONTENT FOR CLERVAUX

Clervaux LUXEMBOURG

Dominated by dense forests, the city of Clervaux in the Luxembourg Ardennes and the charming villages that surround it are full of lively restaurants and art exhibitions — along with a busy calendar of events. Clervaux also offers landscapes of wild

romance, adventures in the great outdoors and surprising cultural treasures. Part of the Cittaslow (slow-living) movement, Clervaux promotes a slower pace, sustainable implementation and the preservation and improvement of the quality of life. Clervaux will enrapture travellers with its

cobbled streets, 12th-century castle in the town centre and red-roofed Benedictine monastery that’s still in use. The imposing Benedictine Abbey of St Mauritius, built in the neo-romantic style, towers majestically above the town, while a charming pedestrian zone invites visitors to stroll into one of the many boutiques. Most shops and restaurants are housed in historic buildings. Clervaux medieval castle, in particular, has shaped the image of the municipality of

Clervaux, not least because of the well-known permanent art exhibitions. It houses the Battle of the Bulge Museum, a showcase of models of Luxembourg castles and Edward Steichen’s legendary UNESCO World Heritage photographic exhibition The Family of Man. The collection consists of 503 photographs by 273 photographers from 68 countries, compiled by Edward Steichen for the MoMA, New York. The annual and thematic programme of

‘Clervaux — cite de l’image’ turns the town into an outdoor gallery experience. Discover artworks on the walls, in the flower gardens and down the maze of streets. Then check out the local restaurants, which tempt with local and regional dishes as well as creative combinations. The city also offers great spa experiences with

saunas, Turkish baths and swimming pools. For the more adventurous, an extensive network of well-maintained bike paths and more than 90 miles of hiking trails pass through Clervaux. And for golfers, the Clervaux golf course is one of the most beautiful in the area’s greater region.

Don’t miss A hike accompanied by a local guide, followed by a three-course meal with local flavours — ideal for food-loving hikers
