The Fontenay HAMBURG, GERMANY
The Fontenay opened in 2018 in Hamburg. Architect Jan Störmer’s design was inspired by the park landscape and the waterline of the Outer Alster. The organically shaped building consists of three circles that run into each other and are intended to be reminiscent of large treetops. The entire hotel is flooded with light, with 14,000sq metres of glass blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, making it a perfect balance of nature and urbanity. The Fontenay reflects modern Hamburg: open,
cosmopolitan and decidedly hospitable. “The luxury hotel is tailor-made for the many national and international guests who are discovering the city for themselves anew or again,” says managing director Thies Sponholz. “But it’s also a hotel for the people of Hamburg: the most beautiful views are to be found in the restaurants, bar and spa, accessible to every guest.” Rooms are bright, spacious and timelessly
classic: almost all 130 rooms and suites have a balcony, some of which face the Alster River. The trapezoidal floor plan, the semi-circular walls
and the large panoramic front of floor-to-ceiling windows create spacious living. Other details include the high-quality wooden parquet flooring from the forests of Fontenay Abbey in France, extra-long beds and specially made furniture. The restaurants are light-flooded, casual and
suitable for any time of day from breakfast to dinner. Parkview restaurant offers modern, straightforward, regional and cosmopolitan cuisine, as well as a view onto the spacious terrace and into the greenery of the Alster. The gourmet restaurant Lakeside on the
seventh floor of The Fontenay promises a contemporary fine-dining experience in a bright and airy atmosphere under the direction of chef Julian Stowasser. The creations are indulgent, unconventional, bold and unexpected in their combinations. The heart of the hotel is the Atrium Lounge and its impressive 26-metre-high ceiling. Here you can sit and enjoy afternoon tea, coffee or a snack. The Fontenay Bar on the sixth floor impresses with an incredible view over Hamburg and a 500sq metre panoramic terrace.
Don’t miss Float in the relaxing 20-metre infinity pool, which appears to form a common water line with the Outer Alster lake
