splendour. Dating back to the 1950s, the all- suite hotel is now an elegant hideaway, close enough for guests to experience the city sights yet set in a peaceful enclave. The 22 sumptuous suites have been restored with marine-inspired turquoise carpets, subtle pink-hued neon-lighting and French windows that frame magnificent Bosphorus views. Befitting an energetic city such as Istanbul,
the hotel’s restaurants and bars are among the city’s coolest hangouts. There’s a relaxed lounge
restaurant for Mediterranean-inspired dishes, with an idyllic terrace overlooking the boats crisscrossing the water, as well as a seasonal rooftop bar where guests sip signature cocktails to a DJ set. The Dragon restaurant is famed for its authentic Chinese cuisine and art collection. The latest culinary addition is Sankai by Nagaya, a 24- seat omakase restaurant curated in collaboration with esteemed chef Yoshizumi Nagaya. With so much going on in the hotel, guests
could be content with staying there during their entire visit, although the location is so close to some of Istanbul’s best shops and restaurants makes discovering them a joy. The surrounding neighbourhood is easy to explore on foot, from the graceful waterfront promenade to landmarks such as the Bebek Mosque and the Asiyan Museum. The resident in-the-know concierge can arrange authentic excursions such as meetings with local artists whose eclectic artwork is on display around the hotel. They can also coordinate individually tailored cultural activities including guided walking and culinary tours.
