The big role our industry has to play
Welcome to this comprehensive guide to the latest iteration of our annual flagship event, Healthcare Estates 2025. Each year, the show grows in scope and ambition, and I’m delighted by this year’s outstanding conference programme, featuring a huge line-up of expert speakers, as well as the extensive exhibition hall which will be hosting the leading companies and associations from across our dynamic sector. This year’s conference theme, ‘Prevention
is better than cure’, could not be more timely. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the most pressing global health challenges of our time. The number of antibiotics capable of defeating harmful bacteria continues to dwindle, raising the risk of infections that are harder – and sometimes impossible – to treat. Without decisive action, this challenge will only intensify.
COVER STORY
Recently, leaders who manage the maintenance of one (or more) health facilities have uncovered the power of Gordian’s procurement solutions. Gordian offers Measured Term Contracts (MTCs),
which help organisations enjoy flexible, ongoing maintenance under pre-agreed terms and a national pricing structure (the National Schedule of Rates or
NSR). Rates are updated annually to ensure healthcare facilities always have the most current data, reflecting market conditions. This commitment to regular updates means less worry about fluctuating costs and more focus on maintaining the critical facilities that help save lives each day.
By using Gordian’s tools, the NHS can access the latest cost data for labour, materials and plant costs, ensuring that maintenance projects are both timely, cost-effective and providing transparency from start to finish. In addition to their core offerings, the company’s MTC QS software is an advanced tool featuring built-in cost data. This software provides a cost-effective, swift and transparent procurement method. Many healthcare facilities that have adopted this software have seen significant improvements in project management and cost control.
The good news is that our sector has a
pivotal role to play in combatting AMR. Smart, informed planning – underpinned by specialist infection prevention expertise – can make a profound difference. From initial design and development through to manufacture, construction, and ongoing maintenance, the built environment can significantly reduce opportunities for pathogens to survive and spread. IHEEM has been strengthening its collaboration with the Healthcare Infection Society (HIS) – combining our knowledge of the built environment with their infection prevention expertise. Together, we can deliver healthcare spaces that actively reduce infection risks.
With many new faces entering our profession,
this is the perfect opportunity to introduce them to the sector. Bring your colleagues along to experience first-hand the knowledge sharing and networking that make this event unmissable. The conversations sparked here really can inspire collaborations that shape the future of healthcare estates.
My deepest thanks go to all our delegates, exhibitors, and the dedicated team who make Healthcare Estates such a high-quality, thought-provoking, and forward- looking show. I look forward to meeting many of you at what promises to be an inspiring, innovative and impactful event.
