IHEEM LAUNCHES NEW POCKET GUIDE TO SUPPORT MEMBERS TOWARDS PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION
The recent training and refresher session for IHEEM professional registration interviewers and assessors prompted a great deal of insightful conversation and knowledge sharing around the process of pursuing accreditation.
T
hroughout the day, members were able to share their own experiences of applying for registration at
Engineering Technician, Incorporated Engineer, or Chartered Engineer level. Members present explored areas around the successes, challenges, and common misconceptions of the registration process, as well as reflecting on the information which may have helped inform and support themselves, or applicants, ahead of embarking on the process. In response to these discussions, IHEEM has produced a new Pocket Guide to sit alongside the existing Pocket Guide to Professional Registration, and within the wider catalogue of guides to different aspects of Institute and member activity. The IHEEM Pocket Guide, Professional Registration: What to Expect, offers a user- friendly overview of the stages and requirements for achieving accreditation for prospective candidates, and also details the responsibilities and benefits of becoming a trained IHEEM assessor and interviewer for the process. While no path for each
individual to registration will look the same, and undoubtedly – and rightly – the competencies required at each stage, and the evidencing of them, can take a significant investment of time, it is hoped that this new guide will ensure individuals are better informed on the basic steps and standards likely to be required of them to
achieve registration at the relevant level. Equally, for those members looking to
extend their engagement with the Institute and its members, and contribute to the progression of professional standards and peer support, as well as gaining valuable CPD, the guide also offers an introduction into training with IHEEM as a professional registration interviewer. This position is one of immense importance, and the training and support offered by the Institute to becoming involved in PRI is proportionate to the significance of the role.
Other guides currently available in the IHEEM Pocket Guide series include ones covering Mentoring and CPD, with all guides available free on the IHEEM website, at all Institute conferences, and at the IHEEM Members’ Lounge at Healthcare Estates 2025.
