TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Updates

Enhancing expertise in healthcare facility planning and design The Institute is dedicated to assisting members throughout their professional journey by promoting the value of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and providing practical tools like the MyIHEEM CPD platform to record and reflect on learning. Through its varied programme of conferences, webinars, and courses, IHEEM provides high-quality learning opportunities that strengthen technical expertise, support career progression, and encourage the exchange of best practice across the sector. IHEEM, in collaboration with its training partner TAHPI, delivers the Health

Facility Planning Course, a specialised programme aimed at enhancing expertise in the planning and design of healthcare facilities (see also this month’s Institute News section for training dates). This course is ideal for professionals who are experienced in related industries, but seek a deeper understanding of the specific requirements and challenges involved in healthcare facility planning. It introduces the core principles of health facility design – including the use of evidence-based research to inform planning decisions, strategies for leading change and managing stakeholders, and ensuring strategic alignment with organisational goals. For a more detailed understanding of the course content and modules, or

Drop-in ‘surgery’ at Healthcare Estates IHEEM Branch and Technical and Advisory Platform drop-in sessions will be taking place at Healthcare Estates 2025 in Manchester next month, offering members a unique opportunity to engage directly with the people shaping the Institute’s work across the UK. These informal sessions are open to all attendees, and are designed to foster meaningful dialogue, knowledge sharing, and closer collaboration within the healthcare engineering community. Members will have the opportunity to meet representatives from their local Branches, as well as from IHEEM’s Technical and Advisory Platforms, gain insight into current initiatives, and explore opportunities to get involved. These drop-ins also provide a valuable space for members to ask

questions, share feedback, and gain a deeper understanding of the work being undertaken by the Institute to support and advance the profession. Whether your interests lie in regional activity or technical and advisory engagement, the drop-ins offer an accessible and welcoming environment to connect with peers and IHEEM representatives. The Drop-in Surgery will be hosted in the IHEEM Members’ Lounge, and the schedule for the sessions is as follows:

• Tuesday 21 October: 10:00–12:00: Technical and Advisory Platform representatives.

13:00–15:00: Branch representatives. • Wednesday 22 October:

10:00–12:00: Branch representatives. 13:00–15:00: Technical and Advisory Platform representatives.

20 Health Estate Journal September 2025 Recently Accredited

Incorporated Engineer Jack Greenway, IEng, said: “‘Professional registration means two things to me: firstly, it helps people I work with have confidence in the work I do and the advice I give. Secondly, that external

recognition of my experience and ability helps to improve my own confidence. It’s a nice feeling to have that acknowledged formally. The full process of registration took about eight months from start to finish. The part that I was the most nervous about – the interview was carried out in a relaxed manner. I also want to thank Clair Wilkins at IHEEM Head Office for her help throughout the process; she was fantastic.”
