8 NEWS New data on healthy scalp
In a clinical study, Symrise has found additional positive effects for Crinipan PMC green, its novel, plant-based anti- dandruff active. The new molecule is as effective against dandruff as traditional ingredients, and helps to promote healthy scalp. Application of the ingredient
by test subjects with dandruff resulted in a healthier ratio of two dominant species of scalp bacteria. This finding is based on ex vivo samples, that Symrise researchers took from the scalp of study participants, before and after a 30-day application of Crinipan PMC green. The substance is suitable for
use in many types of dandruff control and scalp care products. Symrise has incorporated modern research technologies on scalp microbiome into its clinical studies. Contemporary

scientific literature reports that besides of the well discussed relevance of Malassezia yeast in dandruff formation, also bacteria seem to play a bigger role than assumed in the past. The ratio of propionibacteria to staphylococci on healthy scalp favours propionibacteria, while the opposite applies to scalp
with dandruff. Symrise has now discovered
that application of Crinipan PMC green is supporting a favorable shift in this bacterial balance promoting a healthier scalp. At the same time, the researchers observed the opposite effect on the scalps treated with a placebo product.
Partners for sustainable lavender
Firmenich has signed an exclusive partnership with Coop SCA3P, a leading producer of natural lavandin, covering business, diversification and innovation, as well as contribution to sustainable farming to secure the future for local producers. “With this partnership,
Firmenich confirms its long- term investment in the region of Grasse, a UNESCO World Heritage site. We are proud to uphold the centuries-old
traditions of the best naturals, from the legendary lavenders of the mountains of Provence to the exquisite roses blooming in the fields around Grasse,” said Gilbert Ghostine, CEO. “Together with SCA3P, we guarantee a state-of-the-art supply chain for our customers and a responsible business model for the talented farmers and distillers who have dedicated their lives to producing the finest quality lavandin in France.” In addition to securing the
growing needs of Firmenich’s customers for lavandin, lavenders and sage, the Firmenich-SCA3P partnership allows the 230 members of the Coop to anchor their productions on aromatic plants, expanding their current surfaces and bringing in new crops to further diversify their portfolio, including developments in coriander, testing innovative lavender hybrids and new exclusive ingredients.
Consumers want cosmetic products that last all day but contain a high proportion of plant- based raw materials. With its new film-former Baycusan eco E 1001, Covestro meets both requirements. "With this development, we are
reacting to a growing environmental awareness among consumers. We are also helping improve sustainability for our customers," said Mélanie Dick, global marketing manager for cosmetics. "The project is also part of a strategic program under which Covestro intends to focus completely on the circular economy. One of our key focus areas is using alternative raw materials like biomass." Baycusan eco E 1001 is part of
a new product line of polyurethane ingredients based at least 50 percent on renewable raw materials. It fulfils the requirements for natural origin materials in accordance with ISO standard 16128. This partially bio-based film former helps prevent undesirable effects like smearing or discoloration in natural make- up formulations. In addition, it maintains the advantageous properties of synthetic film formers, such as water and abrasion-resistance as provided by traditional makeup formulations. This product also has
advantages over other natural film formers, particularly when styling hair with hot devices like flat irons or curlers. While most natural hair products like xanthan gum have poor thermal stability, Baycusan eco E 1000 can withstand temperatures up to 300 °C, providing protection against heat and frizz, as well as offering flexible styling without any residue.
