Te traditional first roulette ball rolled at Holland Casino Venlo on the evening of Tursday, July 7, 2022. Tis landmark project opened to the public in 2021, but due to the COVID measures, the Grand Opening was delayed for 12 months. ECA member Holland Casino initiated the project in 2018.
Te design of the building incorporates unique applications devised for sustainable construction, while the interior space of the casino promotes social responsibility measures aimed at protecting the welfare and well- being of casino customers.
During the opening ceremony, which had been delayed from 2021 due to the pandemic, Holland Casino’s Director of Operations, Noël Leise, talked about the unique construction of the new casino, which has a total surface area of 10,584sq.m, where there are more than 550 slot machines and 45 gaming tables.
“Holland Casino Venlo is the most sustainable casino in Europe, without making concessions to the guest experience, allure and appearance of the building," describes Mr. Leise. "Te route that bats fly has been taken into account, we collect rainwater for our gray water system and there are no fewer than 7,000 LED lamps on the outside of the casino.”
Player risk assessment is conducted at the entrance to the casino, which in addition to registration upon exit, gives players the tools and information they need to manage their risk and allow for intervention in accordance with problem gambling principles. Te casino has also introduced multiple low-limit games to provide a social connection with players, with education concerning responsible gambling an essential part of the Venlo experience.

"For the design, we explicitly looked at what the guest likes," explains Mr. Leise: “We started on the inside. What do guests want and how do they walk through a casino? Te unique and innovative layout of the casino was designed by global design and architecture firm, Gensler, who took inspiration from the Dutch floral landscape.
“We also tendered the construction locally and regionally. It is a real landmark in a prime location where guests lack for nothing. Holland Casino Venlo was nominated in April 2022 for the best overall casino in Europe. We finished second, after the Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco. We are very proud of that.”
As a member of the ECA, Holland Casino is sharing the learnings and best-practices adopted in the design and construction of Venlo with all members of the association for the future adoption and implementation of sustainability goals by the casino sector.
