Allwyn set to Finalise Camelot Acquisition


Allwyn has agreed to acquire Camelot from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board. Te acquisition is anticipated to close in Q1 2023.


Allwyn’s ownership of Camelot will help facilitate a smooth transition as AEL prepares to take over the operation of the National Lottery from February 1, 2024.


UK LOTTERY


Allwyn has agreed to acquire Camelot from Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board. Upon completion of the acquisition, the current operator of the National Lottery will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Allwyn.


Te acquisition is anticipated to close in Q1 2023 subject to regulatory approvals, including from the Gambling Commission. Te terms of the transaction were not disclosed.


Earlier this year, the Gambling Commission awarded Allwyn the licence to operate the National Lottery from 1 February 2024. Camelot will continue to be operated separately, in accordance with the terms of the third licence.


Allwyn’s ownership of Camelot will help facilitate a smooth transition as AEL prepares to take over the operation of the National Lottery. AEL is working collaboratively with both Camelot and the Gambling Commission on its transition plan for the Fourth Licence.

Germany DSWV and IBIA commit to sports betting integrity


Te German Sports Betting Association and the International Betting Integrity Association have signed a Memorandum of Understanding underlining their common goal of promoting a regulated and secure sports betting market and the integrity of sport.


Te two associations represent a large number of the same operators, which constitute many of the sports betting market leaders in Germany and ptjer international markets.


Te DSWV and IBIA have agreed to work in partnership and to coordinate their activities and efforts on betting and related integrity issues.


In their joint projects, the associations will pool their expertise on activities aimed at promoting a regulated sports betting market in Germany with consumer channelling and related consumer, sports and operator


integrity protection measures.


DSWV President Mathias Dahms said: “Te partnership between the German Sports Betting Association and IBIA is another welcome step forward for the German sports betting industry.


“With its many years of international experience and expertise in the field of sports integrity, the IBIA will support us in strengthening the regulated market and protecting it from manipulation. We look forward to many joint projects and constructive cooperation.”


Khalid Ali, IBIA CEO, added: “IBIA recognises the important work that the DSWV has done in transforming the German sports betting market. Tat market transformation is ongoing and betting integrity is a key part of that discussion. Te market provides a number of important opportunities and challenges.”


Spain


CeJuego, the Business Council of Gaming, has presented a report entitled ‘Te Gaming Yearbook’ detailing how private and public spending has impacted the country’s gaming market.


Te report showed that the level of spending on private games stood at €12m – a 19 per cent drop compared to 2019, whilst public gaming recovered to 95 per cent with a spend of €4.5m.


Based on these figures, CeJuego pointed out that “almost half of gambling spending, 48.5 per cent goes to lotteries and pools managed by the public sector.”


Meanwhile, a total of €825m was spent online accounting for 8.8 per cent of the market, indicating that temporary closures during the pandemic functioned as a substitute.

SPAIN – Terrapinn, the organiser of the World Gaming Executive Summit held each year at the W Hotel in Barcelona, has announced the cancellation of the 2023 edition of WGES on the official website. The announcement confirms the ending of the event due to commercial reasons, with Terrapin no longer moving ahead with next year’s conference.


The announcement continues: “WGES has been a huge part of the gaming industry for 16 years, and now feels like the right time to bring this journey to a close. We’d like to take this time to thank you for your involvement, and to wish you luck moving forward in the gaming industry.”


SPAIN – Stanleybet has obtained a licence for sports betting in the retail market in Andalusia. Stanleybet Group CEO, Dr. Giovanni Garrisi, said: “We had started the process for obtaining the licence already in 2019, then the pandemic event inevitably slowed down the procedures. In the meantime, we continued to dialogue with the Andalusian authorities, to complete the process once everything returned to normal.
