Ironwood Intros High Performance LGA Socket

Eagan, MN — Ironwood Electronics recently introduced a new LGA sock- et addressing high-performance requirements for 0.04 in. (1 mm) pitch optical engine chips — CBT- LGA-5019. The contactor is a stamped spring pin with 0.7 oz (19g) actuation force per pin and a cycle life of 125,000 insertions. The self inductance
of the contactor is 0.93 nH, insertion loss of less than 1 dB at 23 GHz and capacitance 0.097 pF. The current capacity of each contactor is 4A. The operational tem -

perature range of the socket is –67 to +356°F (–55 to +180°C). The sock- et also offers an IC guide for precise LGA edge alignment. The specific configu-
ration of the package to be tested in the CBT-LGA-5019 is an LGA, 1.3 x 1.3 in. (33 x 33 mm) body size, 32 x 32 array and 0.04 in. (1 mm) pitch. In use, the IC is dropped into the socket and the heat sink lid attached by four screws. Vertical force is applied by the integrated compression plate between the heat sink lid and device. The sock- et can be used for device characteriza- tion, screening modules and custom burn-in applications with the most stringent requirements. The CBT-LGA-5019 socket has a
special contact design with an outside spring and flat stamped plungers that
provide a robust solution for burn-in and test applications, including excel- lent electrical signal integrity to meet the requirements of today’s demand- ing analog, digital, RF, Bluetooth and medical device applications.

The socket is mounted using
supplied hardware on the the target PCB with no soldering and, reported- ly, has the smallest footprint in the industry. Its small footprint allows inductors, resistors and decoupling capacitors to be placed very close to the device for impedance tuning. The heat sick socket lid incorporates quick installation method so that ICs
