When you buy a pair of jeans in Ireland the label may say ‘Made in Indonesia’. However, the cotton may have come from India, the dyes from China, the design from the USA, the machinery they were made on from Japan and the finished product transported on ships belonging to a Greek company. The brand name on the jeans may be American but, due to globalisation the company may not have any factories in America or Europe. Instead, production is outsourced to low-cost suppliers in countries like China, Indonesia and the Philippines.
