Karl Bennett, an AIBA certifi ed boxing coach and former boxer, set up Underdog Boxing Gym to cater for clients who want to learn the art of boxing and to use boxing as a means of getting and staying fi t.
Before setting up Underdog Boxing Gym, Karl and his business partner, Renata Bennett, ran a personal training centre in Dublin for a period of eight years. This was successfully sold as a going concern. Having an insight into the fi tness industry, they noticed a growing interest in boxing. This prompted them to open up Underdog.
They carried out comprehensive market research and decided to target a niche market and open the business in a very strategic location.
Karl and Renata invested some of their savings and also wrote a business plan and a cash fl ow forecast that helped them to secure a business loan.
They put a team of professionals together to fi t out the gym to a very high standard. To make the business successful Karl and Renata worked on the branding and marketing to ensure an effective launch. Both Karl and Renata are actively involved in the day-to-day running of the business and have also employed a group of boxing and conditioning coaches.
The aim of Underdog is to position themselves as experts and market leaders.
