Jeanne Steiner, EVP, serves as the manager of the BMS contracts department. She began her career with Progressive Insurance Company where she worked as a property and casualty claims representative and supervisor. Steiner subsequently joined E.W. Blanch and spent several years working as a reinsurance contract analyst. She then moved to John B. Collins Associates where she started and managed the contracts department. Through the acquisition of John B. Collins Associates, Steiner joined Guy Carpenter & Company and had responsibilities for teams in Minneapolis and the east coast.


Why did you choose to work in the insurance industry initially? I took some risk and insurance classes for my finance major, so when the opportunity arose for a job in insurance, it wasn’t wholly foreign to me. Besides, how can one turn down a Rosebud Brown four-door Pontiac Sunbird muscle machine as a company car?


What has been the highlight of your career so far? When you work at a smaller company, you have the luxury to really focus on the client and not be bogged down with noise that may take you away from that focus. There is a palpable energy, when you and your colleagues are all on the same page as to

this ultimate goal. At these organisations, the entrepreneurial energy, the feeling of ownership and the ability to get involved in all aspects of the business make it easier to recruit and retain employees who are seeking to feel engaged this way. So, being involved in growing a company and feeling a part of that growth and the success of the team has been really rewarding and a great training ground.


What has been the biggest challenge you have


encountered? The ever-morphing reinsurance/insurance industry and staying on the leading edge of opportunities and options for our clients. The biggest challenges are the most rewarding to tackle. We are uniquely positioned to bring a whole array of services to our clients, so it is all about working across BMS as a whole and making sure we find the right solutions for our clients to help them drive their strategies forward.


If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what would it have been? If I hadn’t worked in insurance I would have loved to have been a photographer.
