Why did you choose to work in this industry initially? I started work as an analyst at Guy Carpenter fresh out of university. I was attracted to the variety of opportunities available within a large multinational broking firm. As it turned out, while I spent nearly 16 years at Guy Carpenter I had a variety of roles within different parts of the business. It was the perfect training ground and I became a senior vice president within a fairly short space of time. The great thing is that I am still learning every day—it is an amazing industry to work in and requires skills that traverse many disciplines.
What has been the highlight of your career so far? I was proud to be made a partner of Lockton in 2014 based in London. It felt like a true recognition of my commitment to Lockton. I am so energised and proud to work for such an amazing company with some truly outstanding individuals and to be made a partner was the icing on the cake.
What has been the biggest challenge you have
encountered? At a fairly young age I was given considerable responsibility; often setting up and delivering various company initiatives. This required me to manage, collaborate with and get ‘buy-in’ from

colleagues who tended to be much older and more experienced. In some cases there was considerable resistance to change or reluctance to work in a different way. I learnt from experience how to deal with people, how to always consider the ‘bigger picture’ and to ensure that we had our clients’ best interests at the forefront of our minds. Often the most challenging situations have turned out to be the best learning experiences for me. As a result I have never taken the easy option.
If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what would it have been? At the ripe old age of 10 years I decided I wanted to become a “business woman with a briefcase”(my mother still reminds me of this now!). I knew I wanted to work in the corporate world and have always been ambitious, hardworking and determined to make a difference. The only other career path I ever considered was to become an architect as I have a love of design.
