Why did you choose to work in this industry initially? I fell into insurance rather than choosing it but from the very first day I was passionate about this industry, so I signed up for my professional qualifications and moved forward. I was very lucky that in my first position I had a wonderful mentor who shared so much with me and from whom I learned so much. Even though in the early days of my career I was not allowed into

Lloyd’s because I am a woman—how far we have travelled since then—all of my colleagues have always been very encouraging.

What has been the highlight of your career so far? The highlights of my career have been the creation and growth of the Green Island Reinsurance Treaty which today has annual premium flow of $650,000,000, and my appointment in 2007 to my current position as head of Marsh Captive Solutions in Bermuda. In Bermuda we have more than 400 insurance entities under management from all classes of company SPIs, to class 4

on the property and casualty side and all classes of life company. Additionally, our clients are from all around the world. This variety is what makes our work so interesting.

What has been the biggest challenge you have

encountered? I consider myself to have had a very lucky life and I have been blessed with a positive outlook. As such, I do not think I have had many “challenges”. However, my move to Bermuda from London was a very important factor in my career, and I have seen great change in this country. I am proud that I have been part of the development of the industry here.

If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what would it have been? At school I took sciences as I planned to be a physiotherapist, but then I completely changed direction and I am so very happy that I did.
