Kelli Morash, a partner at TigerRisk Partners, has more than 20 years of experience in the insurance and reinsurance industry. Before joining TigerRisk, she was the business partnership manager at V3 Insurance Partners, a specialist multi-line managing general underwriter which offers programmes targeted at small to mid-sized companies. Her responsibilities at V3 Insurance Partners included assisting the national practice divisions with carrier partnerships and reinsurance strategy for various lines of business including DIC, miscellaneous professional liability, workers’ compensation and commercial auto. Prior to joining V3, Morash was senior vice president at Aon Benfield where she was responsible for the production of treaty business from new clients in all lines of business. She worked closely with the internal divisions to support the needs of both regional and global clients, including modelling, actuarial, rating agency, M&A, claims and accounting. She has spent the majority of her career in various reinsurance underwriting roles, including facultative and treaty. She first entered the industry with the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies.
What has been the highlight of your career so far? As a reinsurance intermediary, it is an honour and privilege to represent clients in the marketplace. I have learned that there is an incredible amount of experience, passion, innovation and commitment to excellence that factor into any successful placement. One of the top highlights of my career has been to receive opportunities for repeat business from clients based on their experience and trust in our team’s execution. This has been the ultimate compliment to our team and organisation.

What has been
the
biggest
challenge
you have
encountered? Insurance organisations want better coverage, lower costs and greater efficiency in their reinsurance purchases. Given today’s market conditions, it is increasingly important to be flexible and adaptable to change—to see things through a new lens. Sometimes presenting new ideas and solutions can meet resistance along the way. However, challenging the status quo can result in improved economics for the client. Barriers become challenges for some and opportunities for others. As hockey great Wayne Gretzky once said: “I miss 100 percent of the shots I don’t take.” The right balance of positive energy, preparation, analytics, market knowledge and innovation are key to achieving client success.
What are your career aspirations now? Our business is changing and new capital is flooding into the market from a variety of new sources. re/insurance solutions look very different today and will continue to evolve. Our responsibility as intermediaries is to foster intense curiosity, ask a lot of questions, and constantly seek improvement. Embracing and adapting change in this dynamic marketplace will be a key component to future growth. My own personal career aspirations centre on developing new skillsets and filling in any knowledge gaps so that I am prepared to innovate and anticipate rather than react. When you set the bar high, anything can happen.
