Heather Goodhew is chief operating officer at Aspen Re. She joined Aspen in November 2005 to lead the company’s development in the international property facultative market. In January 2010 she became a managing director of Aspen Re with regional management responsibility for reinsurance business in Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Goodhew was appointed to her current role in August 2011. With over 30 years of experience in the reinsurance industry,


she has extensive experience in broking, underwriting and managing reinsurance international business. Her career began as a broker with CT Bowring, before moving to underwriting in 1987. Prior to Aspen Re, she spent 10 years at XL Re.


What has been the highlight of your career so far? My move to Aspen Re has been a tremendous experience both professionally and personally. The breadth and diversity of the positions I have undertaken has been fascinating and rewarding and as COO, I am able to play a key role in setting and executing the strategy for the business on a global basis.


What has been the biggest challenge you have encountered? After a long career in underwriting, my appointment as COO for Aspen Re presented me with a tremendous opportunity but also some challenges. The role requires a different skillset and the sheer breadth of responsibilities means that there are always new issues and fresh challenges to be addressed.


What are your career aspirations now? Aspen Re is a dynamic and fast-moving business and there

is always more to be done in my COO role. My priority is to make a valuable contribution towards the future success of the business.
