Fiona Sperry began her insurance career in 1986 at Admiral, where she spent six years in professional indemnity claims. She moved to Boncaster/Resource Underwriting where she was senior adjuster for a number of years. Subsequently, in 1998 she joined Archer, a predecessor company of Canopius, and has been with the Group ever since. Her roles have included professional indemnity claims manager, casualty claims manager and head of claims operations before becoming deputy head of claims in 2009 and head of global specialty claims in 2013.
Why did you choose to work in this industry initially? I am very much one of those people who fell into insurance! When I first moved to London I applied for a lot of jobs, one of which was at Nelson Hurst and Marsh. They passed my CV on to Admiral Underwriting where I was first employed, initially as a claims statistics assistant (adding up ledgers). When an opportunity opened up in claims handling I jumped at it and have loved claims ever since.
What has been the highlight of your career so far? Definitely the huge amount of congratulations and well wishes I received following my appointment as head of claims at Canopius. I really was overwhelmed by the response from my friends and colleagues in the industry as well as the tremendous

If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what would it have been? Believe it or not I was dead set on being an actress.
