Why did you choose to work in this industry initially? My first job was with the Danish Export Credit Counsel and it was an easy move to enter the reinsurance industry from this position when the opportunity arose. To be honest I did not know much about reinsurance when I applied for the job with Copenhagen Re but it turned out to be both interesting and challenging in many aspects, so I’ve stayed in the sector ever since.
What has been the highlight of your career so far? When the entire accident and health team left Imagine back in 2007 I was, together with a colleague, given the opportunity to take over the responsibility in this area. Our determination to stay relevant to clients and brokers, deliver sound solutions quickly, and differentiate ourselves meant we were successful in continuing to grow the portfolio over the years.

This has been a great experience and I still enjoy both the underwriting and the challenges of the business especially in light of how the market is moving now and with competition becoming even tougher.
What has been the biggest challenge you have
encountered? Syndicate 1400 has had five names in 14 years and it has been challenging over the years to explain to clients about changes, for example, in ownership, risk appetite, management, bank accounts. at the same time as emphasising that the risk carrier was unchanged. It has certainly been an advantage that we have good relationships with brokers and clients in this constant process. With the last transition into Markel Syndicate 3000 the name will hopefully stay the same for a long period.
If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what would it have been? I would have liked to be a professional tennis player but somehow the talent was not recognised…
