Why did you choose to work in this industry initially? I would like to say it was vocational, but when I graduated in modern languages, I wasn’t particularly aware that insurance could be an option. Once in, I’ve never looked back! No single day is the same in claims and each presents an opportunity to make a positive difference to at least one client around the world. Happily, my language skills have often played their part in that. In order to attract talent proactively, I do think our industry needs to be more vocal in advertising ourselves as the credible and varied career choice it is.
What has been the highlight of your career so far? My current role; now having the ability to bring all those “if I were in charge” ideas to life, such as creating our catastrophe response policy, which works with our clients from the outset, even pre-emptively. I love the times when I truly know we have made something better for our clients, who after all, buy our products for peace of mind. And I enjoy the fact this business is still about the relationships and personal interaction.

What has been
the
biggest
challenge
you have
encountered? Overcoming the challenge of some voices across the industry saying, “We can’t, we’ve always done it this way.” I do not believe that the current market environment is the time or place for such reluctance; we should be focusing instead on finding opportunities to work together with our clients to ensure a seamless service when they need it most.
If you had chosen a different profession/career path, what would it have been? I initially chose to study modern languages as I had decided those skills would help me get a job as an undercover international hotel and restaurant inspector for Michelin guides!
