Mass Spectrometry & Spectroscopy 7
Waters Corporation The new WatersTM
SELECT SERIES CyclicTM IMS integrates cyclic ion mobility (cIM)
technology into a high performance research-grade time- of-flight mass spectrometer. The combination of the new IMS capability with improved mass spectrometry (MS) performance and software, this platform allows leading researchers to expand their scientific discovery potential.
Ion mobility mass spectrometry rapidly obtains information for structural elucidation and enhances system peak capacity. The SELECT SERIES Cyclic IMS replaces the traditional linear ion mobility region with a new compact cyclic ion guide. Ions traverse around the ion guide and with every pass, greater ion mobility resolution is achieved. The new cyclic device provides scalable, high-resolution ion mobility separations and introduces the unique ability to perform ion mobility/ion mobility and IMSn experiments.
The new SYNAPTTM XS is a new flexible, high resolution mass spectrometer for R&D labs
focused on discovery applications. By providing flexibility through inlets and acquisition modes, the SYNAPT XS delivers the freedom of analytical choice for any application. The SYNAPT XS is the newest version of the SYNAPT series with its unique T-Wave IMS configuration, which extends the power of high-resolution analysis. IMS capability on the SYNAPT increases the extent and confidence with which a scientist can profile complex mixtures and characterise complex molecules, and dramatically enhances sample definition.
Waters’ also featured the BioAccordTM LC-MS System for Biopharmaceuticals for ASMS debut of the unit introduced in March at Pittcon. The BioAccord is designed to expand the access to high-resolution time-of-flight mass spectrometry, including multi attribute monitoring capabilities, to more scientists who are analysing critical quality attributes.

ASMS Closing Event
Thursday’s closing event was held at the Georgia Aquarium. The Georgia Aquarium, which took 27 months to complete and opened in 2005, is a public aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia, US. It houses more than a hundred thousand animals and represents several thousand species, all of which reside in 10 million gallons (US) (38,000 m3
) of marine and salt water. It was the largest aquarium in
the world from its opening in 2005 until 2012, when it was surpassed by Marine Life Park in Singapore.
The Aquarium’s notable specimens include whale sharks, beluga whales, California sea lions, bottlenose dolphins, and manta rays and other marine life. In addition to the aquarium access a buffet dinner and a drink was included in the ticket price. The buffet closed at 8:00 pm. to permit attendees to view the aquarium until 9:00 pm.
Future ASMS Dates
Dates and venues for the forthcoming ASMS meetings have been announced as follows: 68th ASMS Conference, 14 - 18June 2020, Denver, CO 69th ASMS Conference, 6 - 10 June 2021, Philadelphia, PA 70th ASMS Conference, 5 – 9 June 2022, Minneapolis, MN 71st ASMS Conference, 4 - 8 June 2023, Houston, TX 72nd ASMS Conference, 2 - 6 June 2024, Anaheim, CA

Modular MS Bench System with Integrated Gas Supply for Sciex LC-MS/MS Unveiled
Peak Scientific has unveiled its latest innovation at the 67th Annual ASMS Conference in Atlanta with the launch of the all-new MS Bench system. Developed exclusively for Sciex, Peak’s MS Bench SCI product line provides a modular workstation with integrated gas generation and a sound-dampening vacuum pump enclosure. MS Bench SCI is designed specifically for use with the current and latest mass spectrometers at Sciex (excluding IVD medical device instruments). Two variants of the MS SCI Bench are available, both identical in form factor, aesthetics and work surface. MS Bench (G) SCI features a self- contained gas generator, providing a reliable and cost-efficient source of both nitrogen (Curtain Gas™) and clean, dry oil-free air for source and exhaust gas at flows and pressures configured to meet Sciex instrument requirements. This is the first time that Peak’s validated and compliant Genius ‘plug & play’ (no external compressed air source required) generator technology has been fully integrated into an LC-MS workbench, providing a unique space-saving option for users of SCIEX mass spectrometers.
The other variant, the MS Bench SCI, comes without the gas generator and provides a noise-abated compartment below the bench. It is suitable for housing up to two MS roughing pumps. Both MS Bench variants are on height-adjustable laboratory-grade castor wheels for easy mobility and seamless integration with surrounding lab work surfaces.
“Combining our market-leading and proven Genius LC-MS gas generator platform with a tailor-engineered modular bench system, the all-new MS Bench (G) SCI represents another innovation milestone for Peak. Equally, it demonstrates our ability to deliver customer-centric solutions to meet the specific needs of our major instrument partners, in this case for Sciex,” commented Petra Gierga, Product Manager for Peak Scientific
Paul Johnson, Senior Product Manager (OEM) for Sciex added: “Sciex asked Peak to develop the next generation of benches that meet our customer requirements while introducing unique usability features. The new MS Bench SCI product line provides an innovative bench solution to our customers looking to optimise their lab space and reduce the footprint of their LC-MS system.”

Ultra-trace Detection Performance Using Atomic Fluorescence Spectroscopy
Coupling Atomic Fluorescence Spectroscopy (AFS) with either cold vapour generation or hydride generation has been PS Analytical’s (PSA) core competency for over 30 years. For the determination of mercury, arsenic, selenium, antimony and bismuth, PSA offers some of the best instrumentation available. PSA analysers provide excellent detection performance including ultra-trace limits of detection, a linear response over several orders, and minimised interferences from other matrix components. PSA’s unique flow cell design, removing troublesome glass or quartz material, results in reduced carryover for faster throughput and less re-runs. Ease of use, reliability and robustness as well as very affordable running costs are hallmarks or the PSA brand.
PSA works with many industries, organisations and markets to deliver industry leading equipment and solutions. The systems are used to determine analytes in; waters, soils, sediments, air, stack gas, blood, urine, food and beverage, minerals and many other sample matrices.
In recent years PSA has expanded the analytical offerings by developing on-line systems particularly waste water and petrochemical applications for both liquids and gases. Determinations of mercury in petrochemical application (liquids and gases) have a unique set of requirements, particularly in sample handling and PSA has developed a range of analysers and accessories to facilitate this complex analysis.
With literally thousands of systems in the field today, and support networks in Europe, USA and SE Asia, PSA offers the ideal package of performance, reliability and support.
