UV/VIS Fiber Optics - Bring Spectroscopy to your Sample
The use of fiber optic technology within UV/VIS spectroscopy offers significant benefits compared to more conventional, cuvette-based methods. Eliminate inefficient, error-prone sample transfer, time- consuming cleaning of cuvettes, and the cost of consumables. The Fiber Probe Adapter fits seamlessly into your UV/VIS Excellence Spectrophotometer and connects to a wide range of commercially available fiber probes, streamlining laboratory workflow no matter the sample size or throughput.
Benefits of the fiber probe adapter include:
• Elimination of sample transfer and the associated risk of spillage and cross-contamination. • Safe, remote measurement of bulky or hazardous samples with measurements taking place directly in the sample container. • Fit to your needs - The adapter fits commercially available fiber probes with SMA connection ports and fits neatly into Mettler-Toledo UV/VIS Excellence UV5, UV7 and UV5Bio Spectrophotometers. • Many modes of operation to suit any workflow: The fiber probe can be used manually, be fixed in a stand for fast ‘in and out’ measurements or integrated into full automation systems. • Fully automate your workflow - Integration with the InMotionTM
Auto-sampler automates a high sample throughput without attendance of an operator.
• Secure, traceable results with connection to LabX PC software, enabling methods to be pre-programmed and automatically scheduled. For more information, visit

One Size Fits All
The Fiber Probe Adapter is designed for maximum convenience of implementation. It fits commercially available fiber probes with standard SMA 905 connection, facilitating a wide range of spectrophotometric applications.
Optical probes based on different measurement principles and with different path lengths can be used: • Measurement principles: Transmission, transflexion • Path lengths: 1 mm to 20 mm • Spectral range: UV and visible
The adapter is compatible with UV/VIS Excellence Spectrophotometer models from Mettler-Toledo: UV5, UV7, and UV5Bio. To install the adapter, it is simply slotted into the top of the instrument, allowing immediate implementation into your lab.
Fit the System to Your needs
This UV/VIS fiber optic system allows the user to customise the set-up in order to accommodate their specific needs. Several different modes of operation are available depending on the workflow:
Bring the probe to your sample - Move the probe manually and dip it directly into the sample vessel to perform a measurement. This mode takes advantage of the whole range of motion of the fiber probes, facilitating safe, remote measurement of bulky or hazardous samples.
Bring the sample to your probe - Fix a probe to a holder and bring the sample to the probe for measurement. ‘In and out’ sample measurement allows the greatest ease of use, frees up operator hands, reduces movement of the probe for the highest accuracy of results and de-clutters the workbench.
Fully automated system - Mettler-Toledo’s InMotionTM
Auto-
sampler remarkably reduces the workload of analysing many samples by adopting the set-and-forget approach, where the system carries out analysis of samples, completely unattended by the operator. This system provides the ultimate efficiency gain with a threefold reduction of operator time in comparison to manual, cuvette-based measurements.
Productivity Gain with Automation
An integrated system of a fiber probe and InMotion Auto-sampler provides a significant increase in productivity. The time saved by the operator using this set-up, in comparison to a manual workflow, is illustrated in Figure 1.
A 70% reduction of total technician expenditure time is achieved when a 10-sample workflow is considered, freeing up the operator to perform other tasks, and increasing productivity.
Performing optical measurements directly in the beakers on the auto- sampler rack removes the need for time-consuming sample transfer, diminishes costs by reducing use of disposables, and is optimal for use with very large sample numbers.
This automated system contributes to a reduction in time-to-results, especially when a large sample throughput is considered.
