New Ultra High-Performance Liquid Chromatograph Series Combines Intelligence and Efficiency
Shimadzu announces the release of the Nexera Ultra High-Performance Liquid Chromatograph series, incorporating artificial intelligence as Analytical Intelligence, allowing systems to detect and resolve issues automatically. The Nexera series makes lab management simple by integrating IoT and device networking, enabling users to easily review instrument status, optimise resource allocation, and achieve higher throughput.
The Nexera UHPLC series maximises reliability and uptime with fully unattended workflows that span from startup to shut-down. Operators can set the Nexera to start up at a specified time, so that it can complete auto-purge, equilibration, baseline checks and system suitability in advance, and be ready for analysis before they arrive at the lab. In addition, FlowPilot ramps up the flow rate gradually, reducing the possibility of damage to columns. The Nexera also has auto-diagnostics and auto-recovery capabilities that allow it to monitor pressure fluctuations to check for anomalies.
With remote mobile phase monitoring and integrated consumables management, the system maximises uptime and reliability. Real-time monitoring of mobile phase levels allows lab personnel to efficiently run batches and respond accordingly if there isn’t enough mobile phase before starting a run. In addition, Nexera tracks consumable usage and sends alerts when parts need replacing, allowing users to keep the system running at peak performance. The Nexera UHPLC series allows analysts to confirm parameters and monitor chromatograms in real time directly from a web browser on their smart device.
The Nexera UHPLC increases efficiency by automating workflows and maximising throughput analysis. The SIL-40 autosampler can process the entire injection cycle time in as little as seven seconds, and continuous analysis can be carried out on up to 44 MTPs (using 3 plate changers). The SIL-40’s plate changers enable non-stop temperature-controlled analysis of thousands of samples. The Nexera automatically blends mobile phases at any set ratio, which speeds up the preparation of buffer solutions and the dilution of solvents. Because it prepares the exact amounts required for analysis, the Nexera reduces waste and labour.
The Nexera’s elegant, compact design saves valuable bench space. Because it uses over 80% less electricity when on standby, it significantly reduces running costs and supports an environmentally-friendly lab.

Purolite Life Sciences brings Purolite’s innovative thinking and distinguished history of resin technology expertise to the global Life Sciences marketplace. A pioneer in resin innovation, and with production plants and advanced research labs across the globe; we continue to lead the future of chromatography.
Purolite is pleased to introduce the new robust Chromalite® Methacrylic (Chromalite® M) hydrophilic macroporous methacrylic resins, for the
chromatographic purification of peptides, oligonucleotides, proteins, enzymes and biomolecules up to 500kDa. With a full range of functionalities, Chromalite®
processing from lab to commercial scale. High cross-linking and the rigid chemical structure of Chromalite®
1-14. Chromalite®
and highly hydrophilic Praesto® M products are perfect for ion exchange, reverse-phase and affinity chromatography in downstream M allows operation at a high flow rate of up to 10 bars, within a pH range of M resins demonstrate intermediate hydrophilicity, sitting between our highly hydrophobic Chromalite® Styrene/DVB range of resins agarose range. Available in standard average particle sizes of 50 -100 µm and 75-200 µm, for high resolution,
intermediate purification, or capture chromatography; Purolite Life Sciences can offer customisation of particle size and can manufacture Chromalite® M from 5 to 500 µm for any application.
Purolite is a leading manufacturer of ion exchange, catalyst, adsorbent and specialty resins. Headquartered in Bala Cynwyd, PA, the company has ISO9001 certified manufacturing facilities in the USA, China and Romania and operates dedicated R&D centres in the USA, China, Romania, Russia and the UK. Purolite, the only company focused exclusively on resin technology, has 40 sales offices in more than 30 countries.

New Flash Purification System and Columns Announced
Biotage a leading global supplier of solutions and technology for analytical, medicinal and peptide chemistry, is pleased to announce the launch of Biotage®
Selekt, a new flash purification system and the new Biotage® Sfär family of flash purification columns. Together these two new products
provide both organic and peptide chemists the opportunity to improve their separations. The Biotage®
Selekt flash purification system is a very compact instrument with a small bench top footprint. Biotage® Sfär columns can be mounted
either on the side or on the front of the instrument, again saving space in the laboratory. The instrument’s high flow and the high-pressure capability enables purification to be performed at a faster rate. Other features also help to increase the rate of purification whilst reducing solvent usage. Biotage®
Selekt features a large touch screen with a completely redesigned and flexible interface, ensuring that the intuitive controls are easy to use
and reducing the time needed for training. In parallel with the new system comes Biotage®
Biotage® Sfär, a complete new portfolio of flash purification columns with various media and sizes ranging
from 5 g to 350 g. These columns use spherical silica with a high surface area and consequently a higher loading capacity – enabling chemists to select a smaller column to perform the same separation, reducing both the amount of solvent used and the cost of the separation.
Sfär columns are flexible, chemists can liquid or dry load the columns as they wish, as with the current Biotage columns. The new columns can be opened, and used in conjunction with Biotage Samplet®
cartridges for optimum chromatography - unique to Biotage. “The combination of the Biotage® Selekt system and Biotage® Sfär columns is a modern and state of the art total Flash Chromatography solution,”
said Tobias Nordin, Global Product Manager, Flash Purification, Biotage. For further information visit
