28 Oxygen Gas Analyser Range Combines Accuracy and Versatility

The Rapidox 1100 oxygen gas analyser continues to be the Cambridge Sensotec’s best-selling and most versatile oxygen instrument, due to its speed and accuracy of measurement, ease of use, calibration and ultra-long life sample pump.

The Rapidox 1100 gas analyser range includes a choice of oxygen sensors designed for measuring ppm levels, suiting a wide range of applications.

The Rapidox 1100 has an OLED screen which now delivers improved visibility from every angle, with four lines of information displayed. For low ppm oxygen gas measurements, the Rapidox 1100 zirconia models now include an updated, superior zirconia planar sensor, providing faster and more accurate trace oxygen measurements.

With the use of an Ethernet adaptor, the new Rapidox can be connected directly to a network and accessed remotely via a PC in the same network or over the internet. The updated Rapidox software allows the user to turn their PC into a giant remote Rapidox display emulator. This is particularly useful for applications where the analyser is based in a remote laboratory and needs to be monitored from another location.

Modbus RTU is now installed as a standard communications protocol. Other new features include an enhanced calibration allowing up to five separate test gases to be used. Individual calibration data, together with other critical parameters such as ambient conditions, historical alarm events, machine run time are now stored and displayed in a new system info menu. The alarm relays now have a latching option to fall in line with standard equipment features. The password system has been updated and the screen display can now be configured to include balance gas values as well as the standard oxygen and pressure readings.

The Rapidox 1100 range is available with many sensor variations including a choice of two electrochemical oxygen sensors, one for low ppm measurements of 1ppm to 1% and another for high percent measurements in the 1ppm to 30% oxygen range. Electrochemical sensors are ideal for applications where VOC’s or flammable gases are present in the gas sample. Other special variations for measuring CO2

, CO, H2 , He and Ne and Xe using Infra-Red (IR) and thermal conductivity (TCD) technology are available. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/OJOl 49512pr@reply-direct.com

Electronic Pipette Helps Researchers Increase Throughput and Accuracy

Researchers at the University of North Texas are using Integra’s VIAFLO 96 electronic pipette to increase the throughput of their ELISA, Luminex and flow cytometry workflows, as well as to improve the reproducibility of their results. The Applied Physiology Laboratory at UNT focuses on research in two key areas - physiologic and immunologic consequences of weight change, and using nutritional countermeasures to maximise immune health after exercise - and performs analysis and testing for other research groups in related fields. Professor Brian McFarlin explained: “We conduct a lot of multiplexed analysis of protein and RNA biomarkers, and this requires precise pipetting. For one study we were performing 50 flow cytometry preps per blood sample, and had over 2,000 samples, so we needed to reduce the amount of manual pipetting we were carrying out.”

“I came across the VIAFLO 96 at a biomarker conference and, after seeing the ability to change the modules to have different volumes, I knew it was just what I needed. It’s been an absolute lifesaver for our work; we use it for sample transfer from storage tubes to reagent plates and reagent additions, especially for running Luminex®

assays and ELISAs. We have since added VIAFLO and VOYAGER electronic pipettes and an ASSIST to our collection, and we’re looking to purchase an

ASSIST PLUS for our workflow. We exclusively use Integra pipettes for all of our liquid transfer work because of the benefits they offer; not only has our throughput increased tremendously, saving a lot of time, but the performance of our assays has improved. Our results are much more reproducible and there is a reduced risk of error,” concluded Brian.

QWS4 Water Still - Still the Best

Quickfit and Quartz launched their first ever water stills more than 60 years ago. SciLabware is proud to re-introduce the Quickfit® distillation market with the introduction of the new Quickfit® still to feature an original high quality Pyrex®

glass boiler and condenser.

This new water still incorporates a number of features that make this still it the ideal choice for a wide range of laboratories with a requirement for pure water. The QWS4 Water Still will produce 4 litres per hour of pyrogen-free single distilled water compliant to ASTM and ISO standards. A UK manufactured chromium plated double earthed heating element is fitted with two independent re-settable thermostats to protect the still from overheating should the water supply fail. The highly efficient Pyrex®

glassware is necessary, simply add the cleaning solution via the funnel on the Pyrex®

glass coil condenser ensures that the distillate is cooled ready for use. Cleaning the still could not be simpler. No dismantling of boiler.

Manufactured in the UK, the QWS4 combines proven performance and reliability with exceptional value for money.

All of the main components can be supplied as spare parts, and a Pyrex 20 litre reservoir assembly or Azlon polypropylene aspirator bottles can be supplied for the collection and storage of the distilled water. More information online: ilmt.co/PL/xLGX
