Slides that Run 2 Diagnostics Tests Simultaneously Awarded CE Mark Ortho Clinical Diagnostics’ new VITROS®

XT MicroSlide system has been awarded CE Mark certification. This groundbreaking, multi-test technology

allows labs to run two tests on one slide simultaneously, thereby simplifying workflow and improving productivity and turnaround time in the lab. Currently, available test pairs include: triglycerides and cholesterol; urea and creatinine; glucose and calcium; bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase.

VITROS XT MicroSlide is powered by the cutting-edge digital imaging optics technology, DIGITAL CHEMISTRY™, which extracts considerably more information from each test whilst requiring less patient sample. This is an important advantage for vulnerable patients or those with venous access issues.

Labs achieve reliable high-quality results they can trust and increased productivity and efficiency by simultaneously performing two tests that are commonly ordered together from a single small blood sample. This improves lab productivity and turnaround time, while simplifying inventory management and optimising storage space.

“The Ortho VITROS XT MicroSlide is a great technological leap, with DIGITAL CHEMISTRY signifying a true revolution in the pursuit of consistently reliable and accurate clinical diagnoses,” said Dr Jorge Aldunate Ortega, Clinical Laboratory Manager of RedSalud in Chile. “This technology reinforces Ortho as the trusted leader in the field of chemistry and immunodiagnostics.”

Ortho’s VITROS XT MicroSlides, which include VITROS® XT UREA-CREA, TRIG-CHOL, GLU-Ca Slides and TBIL-ALKP, have received CE Mark signifying

conformance to applicable European Union regulatory requirements. Additionally, Ortho recently announced CE Mark for its next-generation VITROS®

High Sensitivity Troponin I assay, the latest addition to the company’s robust cardiology menu and a critical tool for clinicians

who are seeking improved strategies to more rapidly and accurately identify patients suffering from a heart attack. Ortho’s VITROS XT MicroSlides and the VITROS High Sensitivity Troponin I assay are available commercially in all countries that accept CE Mark, including Chile and Australia.

Expanded Platform to Deliver ‘ContiGuous’ Bioprocessing Announced

Merck has unveiled its BioContinuum™ Buffer Delivery Platform, a new building block in the BioContinuum™ Platform for next-generation bioprocessing. The BioContinuum™ Buffer Delivery Platform is part of Merck’s BioContinuum™ Platform to deliver ‘contiGuous’ bioprocessing.

“Merck’s vision goes beyond continuous manufacturing and will deliver contiGuous bioprocessing, a seamless confluence of digital and intensified bioprocessing building blocks,” said Andrew Bulpin, Head of Process Solutions, Life Science, at Merck. “Our BioContinuum™ Buffer Delivery Platform is a perfect example of the high degree of connectivity that contiGuous biomanufacturing can achieve.”

The BioContinuum™ Buffer Delivery Platform is an integrated solution for more efficient buffer delivery and is tailored to provide the highest level of accuracy and precision in buffer preparation and management. Its launch is timely, as industry adoption of liquid buffers is expected to expand from seven to 56%, according to Merck’s internal market research.

Merck has obtained certain exclusive rights to sell the buffer dilution system developed by Lewa-Nikkiso America Inc (now a part of YMC Co, Ltd) for customers involved in the development or production of diagnostics and biopharmaceuticals. This buffer dilution system offers the highest accuracy available for dilution of highly concentrated buffer, and Merck is the only supplier providing such an integrated offering. Merck’s BioContinuum™ Buffer Delivery Platform supplies process buffers at a fraction of the resources and facility space, resulting in a more streamlined buffer suite and a more efficient manufacturing process.

The configurable platform is comprised of four components: a selection of distinct buffer concentrates, reliably delivered in Mobius® buffer dilution system with tailored system services.

Merck has also introduced Emprove® Evolve, a new product line under the Emprove® Program. Emprove® Select single-use assemblies and an automated, highly accurate and precise

ContiGuous manufacturing goes beyond just connecting the individual unit operations — it will include the orchestration and management of all the processing steps (materials, production, testing and analytics) with an industry-leading streamlined and optimised approach.

Evolve provides a new area of regulatory support in risk assessment for critical raw materials, helping

drug manufacturers meet developing regulatory requirements. The program contains a high level of product characterisation and documentation, providing more control of the manufacturing process and allowing manufacturers to select the appropriate quality of raw materials for drug development.

ground glass joints were first developed in 1934 by a British company, Triplex Safety Glass Company, as an alternative to scientists having to use rubber bungs and glass and rubber tubing to connect pieces of glassware. Following the Second World War, Triplex established a new company, Quickfit and Quartz Ltd, to produce the new Quickfit® jointed laboratory glassware in Stone, Staffordshire as demand for this jointed glassware increased.

Highly Versatile Jointed Glassware for Every Laboratory Application Quickfit®

Today, Quickfit®

SciLabware range of famous brands, such as Pyrex® All Quickfit®

range. Pyrex®

jointed glassware continues to be manufactured at SciLabware’s production facility in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire along with other glass products from the , MBL®

, SVL® and Wheaton® glass items are exclusively manufactured from Pyrex® . borosilicate glass which has a very low coefficient of expansion, making it ideal for use over a wide temperature

glass is also highly resistant to chemical attack and can be used with most acids, alkalis and organic solvents. Quickfit®

Unlike the joints available from other manufacturers, Quickfit® interchangeable conical joints are made to an accuracy that surpasses the requirements of ISO 383 & DIN 12242. A unique two stage grinding

process ensures that the joints have a precision 1:10 taper and super-fine surface finish. The smooth surface finish ensures that the joints are safe to use and will not leak and will be gas and vacuum tight. It also results in joints that have a greatly reduced risk of joint seizure.

sockets feature a rounded rim profile. This round design gives extra strength

to the joint and is less prone to chipping than a square rim profile. More information online https://ilmt.co/PL/xL3B

New System Provides Accurate and Safe Bottle-top Dispensing of Many Common Laboratory Liquids , the first continuously adjustable-volume pipette.

Gilson have introduced DISPENSMAN™, a bottle-top dispenser for convenient, safe, and precise delivery of common laboratory solutions and solvents. DISPENSMAN continues the innovation of Gilson’s liquid handling line, which also includes PIPETMAN®

DISPENSMAN has an innovative, three-position nozzle that controls the dispensing of liquids, the removal of air in the system to avoid liquid loss, and includes an anti-drip safety feature that returns liquid to the bottle. Make volume changes quickly and easily by pushing to unlock and then sliding the volume adjuster to the desired dispensing volume with no need to open bottles, decreasing chances of contamination.

DISPENSMAN is easily calibrated by the user and accommodates most liquids including many acids, bases, and solvents. The system is autoclavable, and does not require consumables such as tips.

Five DISPENSMAN models are available that cover various volume ranges from as low as 0.25 mL up to 50 mL. All meet ISO 8655 specifications. A variety of adaptors are also available that allow the DISPENSMAN to be used with most common bottle types. For more information on DISPENSMAN bottle-top dispenser, please visit www.gilson.com/dispensman
