Positive Pressure Manifold for SPE Offers Consistent Flow Control for Improved Results Gilson announces the introduction of the ASPEC®
Positive Pressure Manifold for solid phase extraction (SPE).
The ASPEC manifold offers an initial step to SPE automation for clinical, forensic and food or beverage testing laboratories. With the ability to accommodate 96-well SPE plates, the ASPEC manifold is also an ideal choice for sample cleanup prior to LC-MS for bioanalysis.
The ASPEC Positive Pressure Manifold uses positive pressure gas to force viscous samples into SPE cartridges, unlike traditional SPE vacuum manifolds. The multiple adjustable flow rates improve consistency among samples and recoveries, and ensures uniform flow for both low- and high-viscosity solutions.
The ASPEC Positive Pressure Manifold, with its single gas input and small footprint, incorporates easily into laboratory workflows and provides a fast and simple way to prepare several samples in parallel for later analysis by chromatography.
The universal design of the ASPEC Positive Pressure Manifold makes it compatible with popular formats, including 1, 3, and 6 mL SPE tabbed and tabless cartridges and 96-well SPE plates. When combined with Gilson’s PLATEMASTER®
microplate pipetting device, the ASPEC Manifold
greatly increases sample preparation throughput to meet increased testing demands in the clinical, forensic and food or beverage laboratories. For more information visit

45813pr@reply-direct.com The Easy Dosing Pump for Aggressive and Corrosive Liquids
Dosing very aggressive and corrosive liquids in laboratories is a challenge. Diaphragm pumps are the ideal tool for this difficult task. The new SIMDOS®
is fitted with a PTFE head, a PTFE-covered diaphragm, and chemically resistant FFKM Kalrez® Chemraz®
-valve kit even allows using the pump with highly concentrated acids such as nitric, sulphuric and hydrochloric acids and solvents such as TFH, DMF, DMSO and MEK. The pump head is situated outside the splash-protected IP-65 housing, providing a very significant safety feature.
Also available with heads in PP or PVDF, the new SIMDOS® 02 FT dosing pump transfers liquids with a flow rate
of 30 µl to 20 ml/min, and dose volumes of 30 µl up to 999 ml. Following calibration, repeatability is +/-1% (full range) and the pump offers excellent long-term stability and consistent reliability throughout entire processes. The SIMDOS®
02 FT dosing pump takes up very little valuable laboratory space.
02 FT is safe to run dry and is self-priming up to 2 m. It is effective against pressures of up to 6 bar and transfers viscous media up to 150 centistokes. The integrated software permits the transfer parameters to be modified for a range of different viscosities at the touch of a button. Thanks to its neat design and small footprint, the new SIMDOS®
SIMDOS®
02 FT highlights include: FT head / FFKM valves for aggressive and corrosive liquids; intuitive operation; fast and simple calibration; pause function without data loss; adjustable transfer parameters; splash-protected design for increased safety; minimal footprint.

Liquid Argon Auto-fill Pump for Low Pressure Cooling and Filling of Temperature Controlled Applications
Norhof releases a new way of cooling down to -186ºC with liquid Argon auto-fill systems. Liquid Argon (LAr) as a cooling medium is 10ºC warmer than LN2 but can take out about 2,3 times more heat per unit of mass than LN2. When LAr is required, a small overpressure (150 mBar) is generated by a small heater element in the LAr inside the Dewar. In a very elegant way liquid flows out of the system like water from a tap, without spilling, noise and vibrations, ensuring efficient and safe filling and level control in your cooling application.
The Norhof LAR #915 series, which is fully programmable with several control options, is based on one or two sensors in level or temperature.
Applications for the Norhof LAR #915 series Liquid Argon auto-fill include: automatic LAr filling system for FTIR; automatic LAr filling system for DSC; automatic LAr filling system for TMA; Liquid Argon Cold Trap filling; Liquid Argon heat exchangers PID temperature control; Computer Controlled Freezing; Gas Chromatography; temperature stages in microscopes.

Flexible BOD Robots Launched
With the launch of new automated technologies for BOD and CBOD testing, Seal Analytical has broadened its expertise in instrumentation to yet another section of the wet chemistry laboratory. The acquisition of Rohasys Laboratory Robotics in the Netherlands has significantly expanded Seal’s product portfolio from an entry-level system that simply automates the DO reading, to a fully automated BOD robot.
Building on 25 years of experience at Rohasys, the MiniLab has been designed with a robust framework combined with intelligent motor programing to ensure correct alignment of probes and bottles. Equipped with state of the art chemiluminescent optical DO probes, throughput and productivity are increased by minimising stabilisation times during DO readings.
The instrument is controlled by Seal’s BOD software, which takes account of the BOD regulations in different regions, and with customisable import and export files, the software allows for simplified LIMS integration and streamlined data management. Analysts can organise the run table to display exactly what they need to see, and then set that as a template for easy access on future runs.
From the compact MiniLab-s with a 36 bottle capacity to MiniLab systems several meters long (capable of analysing hundreds of samples in a single run), the size of the robot can be tailored to maximise capacity while still considering available bench space. In addition, a wide range of automation options are available including: the addition of seed and/or nitrification inhibitor; the addition of dilution water; automated bottle capping/de-capping; pH measurement and adjustment; sample pipetting, including pre-dilutions and barcode reading, as well as sample aeration and/or homogenisation.
