The ALMEMO 710 from Ahlborn (Germany) is a real newcomer in application-independent instrumentation. The design is both contemporary and compelling. Operation is both intuitive and easy to use via icons on a brightly lit, colourful 5.7” touch screen. For more complex applications, there is both a software wizard and online help via pop up windows in a clear presentation. Measurement, top middle, and limit values can be displayed in lists, bar and line graphs. For the professional user there is an auto-configurable user menu with all the required parameters. The instrument packs the latest equipment technology in an attractive desktop housing with a protective rubber coating so field measurements can be made in difficult industrial environments without error.
The device can also be rail mounted to make it suitable for both fixed and mobile applications. The measuremant data can be stored on in 8MB flash memory and later downloaded to a PC and activated as a circular buffer. Furthermore a microSD card can be easily added to offer extra storage space for measurement speeds of up to 1000 measurements per second or long term monitoring in sleep mode. 10 isolated, independent measurent inputs allow for a huge variety of different sensor types, as well as existing sensors which can be connected to the device. Additionally a range of specially designed ALMEMO 710 digital sensors offer special features with outstanding accuracy. Firstly measurements of up to 8 digits are produced, and in addition the intelligent ALMEMO V7 connector allows up to 10 channels for measuring and function values for multi sensors and to connect external devices such as complex chemical analysers and energy analysers. The secret to this is that the sensors carry their own processor and AD converter.

Increased Pigment Removal with Analysis of Pesticides in Oranges
Although pesticides have proven to be invaluable in crop production, the same toxicity, stability and mobility that enables them to effectively kill insects causes detrimental effects in humans. The importance of pesticide residue analysis led to the development of the Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, Safe (QuEChERS) sample preparation approach by Anastassiades and Lehotay, a dispersive SPE method utilising bulk SPE material for sample cleanup. Agencies in both the U.S.A. and Europe have subsequently established methods.
Several materials from Supelco (USA) are available as QuEChERS cleanup sorbents, each effective for the removal of specific interference types. They can be used individually or in combinations best suited to the sample matrix. Z-Sep (the Supelco product name for zirconia on silica) is a new sorbent that enhances sample cleanup for complex matrices.
Two versions are offered: Z-Sep/C18, a blend of two separate sorbents (zirconia on silica and C18 on silica), is recommended as a cleanup sorbent to remove pigments from extracts of samples containing less than 15% fat, or Z-Sep+, a hybrid material (zirconia and C18 are on the same silica particles), which is recommended as a cleanup sorbent to remove fats from extracts of samples containing greater than 15% fat.

The new EE210 transmitter from E+E Elektronik (Austria) has been developed for highly accurate measurement of relative humidity and temperature in demanding climate control applications. Excellent temperature compensation ensures outstanding accuracy over the entire temperature working range.
Besides relative humidity and temperature, EE210 calculates further physical quantities such as dew point temperature, absolute humidity and mixing ratio. Two of the measured and calculated values are available on the freely configurable analogue voltage or current outputs.
The combination of completely encapsulated measurement electronics inside the sensing probe and HCT01 humidity sensor with E+E proprietary protective coating enables the use of the EE210 even under harsh and aggressive environmental conditions.
The innovative enclosure of the EE210 provides outstanding protection against contamination. Thanks to the external mounting holes the housing remains closed during installation and so the electronics is protected from construction site pollution or mechanical damage. At the same time the installation costs are minimized.
Up to three individually selectable measurement values can be shown simultaneously on the optional display. The smooth cover surface avoids accumulation of dust in protruding edges.
EE210 transmitters are available for wall or duct mounting. Typical applications are agriculture (stables, incubators, hatchers, green houses), storage rooms, cooling chambers or indoor pools.
