CEM 2014 Preview - Air Monitoring
Measuring the Total CO2 Emission in the Stack
A new accurate method for determining the CO2 -emission has been developed
and taken into use in a Finnish coal power plant. The emission is measured by using a continuous CO2
The calibration uncertainty of the total CO2 -concentration measurement in the stack and a stack gas
fl ow measurement. The good traceable accuracy is reached by accredited on-site calibrations of these components.
-emission was 1,8 %, well under the
uncertainty limit of 2,5% set by the EU regulations for the yearly emission. By measuring the CO2
-emissions directly from the stack the plant can avoid costly
sampling and analysis of the raw material. The method is applicable to all coal power plants using natural gas or fuel oil as their secondary fuel. Indmeas (Finland) will present the method in detail at the CEM conference on 15th of May at 2.10pm.

Pollution srl (Italy) is an experienced designer and manufacturer of analytical tools for the on-site chemical analysis of volatile compounds. Since 1991 Pollution srl has put its efforts into designing ground-breaking products and today it is a leading company in microGC and emissions FID technologies.
You are invited to visit their booth #35 at Istanbul’s CEM from May 14th to 16th. During the fair, you will have the chance to discover some of their products, including:
POLARIS FID, a TUV certifi ed on-site portable TOC Analyser for
Stack Emission Monitoring. It is a fully portable heated FID instrument and it incorporates everything needed for full onsite analysis. Along with stack monitoring, it also performs environmental screening and it is perfect as a portable, effi cient solution to monitor needs in intense environments.
GCX MicroGC, based on microgaschromatographic technology. The GCX with its 19-inch rack chassis confi guration is the ideal tool for online applications and continuous monitoring. Compared to the classical lab gas chromatographs, the GCX signifi cantly speeds up the analysis time: it performs a complete analysis of permanent gases (H2
, O2
hydrocarbons and olefi ns (C1-C5 and C6+) in less than 160 seconds.
