Thank you Ground-Breaking ‘Green’ Gas Sensors Developed
Honeywell company City Technology (UK) has collaborated with Systronik, a leading German emissions gas analyser manufacturer, to create a new gas sensor range; two innovative products named 4OX eco LP and 5OXeco that detect oxygen levels. These sensors will be crucial to the development of the fl ue gas emissions testing industry.
The innovations exhibited by the 4OXeco LP and 5OXeco sensors, build on City’s well-established lead-free fuel cell technology. For example, the sensors are long-life, require little power to operate and have a high resistance to cross-contamination from other common fl ue gases, providing improved operational reliability. All this means the overall cost of running an maintaining fl ue gas analysers will be reduced.
Richard Skoberla, the Managing Director of Systronik, considers one the main advantages of their partnership with City, apart from their excellent quality and immediacy of delivery, is that City is a company that prides itself on “staying ahead of the curve” in terms of innovation.
Other innovative products that City is releasing include: The A5F+ hydrogen compensated high range CO sensor, developed primarily for the statutory market, particularly in Germany, where very accurate readings of the CO levels in fl ue gases, without any cross interference from hydrogen, are required; The 4F and 4MF CO sensors, developed to meet some of the most stringent operating requirements in fl ue gas sensing. With such a pedigree, these sensors, optimised for use in the emissions market, bring an unparalleled degree of performance and confi dence for the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and user.
This next generation of emission sensors will help instrument manufacturers reduce the Total Lifetime Cost of Ownership for end users, minimise premature sensor failures and support the trend towards physically smaller and less power-hungry instruments. Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) customers will also benefi t from reduced response and recovery times, better temperature stability, reduced start-up times and improved reliability.
Photodiodes with cut-off wavelengths 2.4, 3.6, 4.8 µm and two different sizes of the sensitive area (0.3 and 0.5 mm in diameter) are available from LED Microsensor NT.
Photodiodes can be successfully used in a pair with the LEDs produced by the company as well as for laser and filament source emission detection in the range 1.6 – 4.6 µm.
Photodiodes can be used in photovoltaic mode and reveal high sensitivity, fast response time, wide temperature operation range, long life time that enables implementing them into various optical detection systems for gas and liquid analysis.
Different TO-type packages without/with thermoelectric modules (Peltier coolers) are available. A new photodiode design coupled with a preamplifier has been recently released and helps to arrange a testing set-up in a short time.

The EC410 has an lengthy expected lifetime of 36 months and can operate reliably in a wide range of different conditions at extremely high and low temperature and humidity levels. The sensor’s reaction to pressure is equal or better than all other oxygen sensors.
This sensor is compliant with EU RoHS regulations (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), as it contains no toxic metals. The absence of lead makes the EC410 lighter than many competitive sensors. This also means that dropping the sensor would not be too detrimental as there is no lead mass to move that can cause output spikes.
Leakages are all but eliminated as the liquid is almost completely contained with the water absorbing layer. The liquid content is considerably lower than in a vast majority of other oxygen sensors. In addition, the internal pressure of the EC410 is stable throughout the sensor’s life. This further reduces the potential of leakage internally, which can cause the sensor to lose lifespan and external leakage, which can also cause sensor damage, not to mention damaging the surrounding circuits.

Expanded Dual Sensor Range Personal gas safety monitors can be found in
almost every industry, with the requirement for multiple gas detection becoming commonplace. Most of these gas detectors measure both Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen Sulphide.
A new family of Dual Gas Sensors, from Alphasense (UK), designated 2Sense enhance our original and highly successful miniature 2 gas sensor, the D2 with the A-Series in 20mm format. These DualSensors with a patented design have an excellent response, offer required performance and save space and cost.
The piD-TECH® plus plug in sensor provides comlete photionization detection capabilities and is easily installed in portable and stationary gas monitors.
