46 Health and Safety Making Sense of Noise at Work Regulations
Join Pulsar Instruments’ (UK) noise experts in a series of face to face courses and gain vital insight on how to manage the noise measurement process. The one day courses are delivered by a member of the IOA (Institute of Acoustics) on behalf of the company and are intended to meet the needs of those new to noise measurement. The courses are particularly suited for those safety professionals who have recently purchased a new sound level meter or a noise dosimeter system or who are thinking of procuring new noise monitoring equipment and would benefit from practical, expert noise at work advice.
Pulsar Instruments have extensive experience of workplace noise measurements through direct contact with safety professionals around the world since 1969 and have forged a strong reputation in the field. The course reflects this expertise in a way that is accessible to all. Enough information is presented to allow sensible noise measurements to be made in the field of Industrial Safety. However, this short course does not replace more rigorous ‘Competency’ courses; instead, it should be treated as an introduction or revision of the subject. Any delegate taking part in this course will benefit from this practical knowledge. Basic theory is limited to that which is vital to understanding the measurement process.
The actual measurement process is covered in some detail so that the requirements of the UK Health and Safety Executive or the European Union Directive, can be fully covered. The latest Directive on noise at work, effective from April 2006, requires that the noise levels be lower than the previous permitted levels, which affected the hearing of too large a proportion of the working population.
New Portable Noise Monitor Launched After 2 Years in the Making
Invictus Noise Monitoring Systems Hear • There • Everywhere
Introducing the Invictus, Cirrus Environmental’s purpose designed portable noise monitor for outdoor noise measurement.
• Accurate • Flexible • Reliable
Cirrus Environmental (UK) launches its new Invictus portable noise monitor.
After more than 2 years in development the Invictus has been designed specifically for environmental noise applications with all new functions, making it the most comprehensive noise monitoring device on the market today.
Developed by Cirrus Environmental’s own in-house R&D team, the Invictus allows simultaneous measurements of all parameters and can be controlled remotely via 3G, GPRS, Wi-Fi Ethernet or Radio Modems. Its flexible programming allows the user to set different measurement periods and alerts for different times of the day/ different days of the week for a comprehensive system that meets every noise related challenge. It can also deliver its data with audio recordings, SMS, email and twitter alerts to ensure the information can be gathered and delivered virtually real time – ideal for site managers who need to be alerted to breaches of pre-set limits as soon as possible.
Other extras introduced as standard include a new flexible calendar function that supports project planning needs. The calendar function allows different averaging periods and alerts to be set up for different times of the days/days of the week to comply with complex noise limit conditions, for example, if a project is working close to schools, public buildings or on festival sites.

Even at the new lower action levels, a significant number of people will still have their hearing affected and hearing damage, once caused cannot be cured. This last Directive will add cost to a large number of businesses, from the increased use of PPE, extra health monitoring, new building works through to replacement of noisy machines.
The 3 key dates in 2014 are as follows:- Weds 23 April 2014 Sandown Park Racecourse, Sandown; Weds 11 June 2014 Edgbaston Cricket Ground, Birmingham; Weds 24 September 2014 National Railway Museum, York.

Certificates and Declarations of Conformity Attained for Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan
For More Info, email: email:
E2S (UK) are pleased to announce the attainment of these new certifications for products from their fire & industrial, explosion proof and wide area disaster notification portfolios. The new TR CU Declaration of Conformity certifies compliance to the new, harmonised Technical Regulations of the Eurasian Economic Community (Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan) and fulfillment of safety requirements. The new TR CU Certificate of Conformity for the Customs Union for safety of equipment for use in explosive atmospheres is mandatory for any electrical equipment that is to be operated, or installed, in hazardous areas and potentially explosive atmospheres in these countries. The certification enables products to obtain clearance at the Russian and Customs Union borders. These certifications replace the GOST-R and Ex GOST-R national Russian certification system that is being gradually withdrawn.
For hazardous areas, the TR CU Certificate of Conformity covers the BEx and GNEx explosion and flame proof signals and the IS intrinsically safe ranges.
For fire & industrial applications the TR CU Declaration of Conformity is awarded for majority of the product ranges such as Sonora, AlertAlarm, AlertAlight, Spectra, Hootronic as well as many wide area disaster warning products and panel mount status lights.
The new certifications use the market circulation marking of the Customs Union (EAC and EAC Ex markings) which can be found on all the product labels supplied to these countries by E2S.
The certifications add to the company’s portfolio of worldwide approvals including ATEX, IECEx, UL, cULs, INMETRO and VDS which ensure compliance and acceptance and positions the company at the forefront of global supply of life saving signalling devices.
