I decided to rescue Lucky, a Maltese Poodle, at the


age of one. He will soon be three, and he is indeed my constant companion. He is by my side when I start my day meditating. He is in my way when I do my yoga practice. He waits patiently while I print, cut, fold and package note cards, preparing to ship or deliver them to the stores that carry my work. He is by my drawing board in the evening, my favorite


time to do art. He plays every day with Rumi, the orange (my favorite color) cat who showed up at my house several years ago. One or two days a week, Lucky goes to what I call camp. At doggie daycare he can enjoy his second favorite activity: playing with other small dogs. To me, drawing and painting are the closest thing


to truly meditating. I like silence when I work and although my studio is anything but neat, it is a peaceful place to me. It overlooks my pool through sliding glass doors and I find the color of the turquoise water especially soothing. The view is a contrast to a room with two com- puters, a copier, a cutter, a folder, a printer, a scanner, as well as a small desk with many cakes of half used watercolors and baskets full of my note cards. Oh, and a bed for a dog and a bed for a cat.
