A year after adopting Loki,

Angelica and Jeff were visiting the shel- ter for Halloween when they met The Dude. “We actually saw his photo on the shelter’s website the day before. He was a transfer from a shelter out of Sebring. We loved that he had similar markings to Loki’s,” said Angelica. The couple adopted The Dude that day. Where Loki is a total cuddlebug, The Dude prefers his own space, but the two get along well with each other. Each spring the Humane Society

of Tampa Bay hosts Bark in the Park, one of their biggest fundraising events of the year. In 2014, Angelica decided to create her own team page for Bark in the Park to raise money for the shelter in honor of Dingbat. “That first year, I raised $240

through my friends and family,” said Angelica. “I was really happy with those results. Every year since, we’ve been able to raise more than the previous year.” In 2019, Angelica raised $2,200 for

Bark in the Park, the most raised by an individual. Her goal for 2020 is $2,500. Beyond raising money, Angelica and Jeff feel the bigger picture is that they’re raising awareness about not only shelter animals and adoption but responsible pet ownership, veterinary care options and spaying and neutering pets. “My friends and colleagues ask me

all the time what they can do to help. I tell them about the programs the shel- ter has to get kids involved. The shelter has a wonderful foster program, and of course, one can volunteer some time at the shelter. It’s very simple, really. Just be willing to commit to something, what- ever you’re comfortable with, then see it through. That’s the really important thing. It’s not about making a name for yourself,” said Angelica. “It’s truly for the greater good of the animals to help get them adopted.”
